spankis
Thats my stomping grounds. I think I saw the VW driving on Summit last year at some point...you'll likely see the car in my sig (although lowered a lot ) around campus when it warms up. P.S. - I dig the project! neonkiller
Well after a quick look at what happend to my motor in the car it seems like someone befor me blew the head gasket on one side so they installed only one side with a new one and arp bolts:cool: So Im gonnna rip the motor apart and freshen it up just in case. Re ring it, new bearings and some other goodies. The motor has quite a few miles on it it seems like.....My friend chris will be guiding me through the process so Im pretty excited to actually disasseble and put together my first motor myself. But anyhow heres some shots of the progress I made, Would have more done but VW is leaking trans fluid after the install..... Before. http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/50/l_a1d5dcf99edd40af9797b864b694a006.jpg After. http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/55/l_8556e5c6489749848f1e7a91ea3b40c3.jpg So there is alot more than meets the eye with this project. after disassembling the heads there is stop leak all throughtout the motor and everywhere else. So its gonna need hot tanked, radiators got that stuff in it also. Radiator needs moved forward and I need to remove a ton of other things from the front of the car to get the big FMIC to fit. So maybe hopefully by Fall this thing fires up...... Here are some more pictures of the Exhaust manis the previouse owners had on it that clearly did not match with how low the car was. I could be driving down the highway and hit a bump and these fuckers would leave sparks high enough to see out my rear view. http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/10/l_4149212e4ee24d7d9a59f20ba7531881.jpg

Oh well..... My Work space, thanks to a good friend. http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/49/l_d006b4dcd23c407abad53b4906971412.jpg Since no one like the hood you really wont like it afterwards.. Its getting the pop up headlights deleted and going with a one peice hood. Driving lights will be small projectors in the flash to pass lenses. Thats all for now hopefuly more this sunday will get done and I can see how bad the bearings are.
Main3s
WOW, hopefully you got a good deal on that!? Sounds like the previous owner did real quality work! But great project man, I've helped with a few projects like this but never had the opportunity to do my own build. Good luck with everything and hopefully you don’t find too many more surprises, shit gets expensive!

Befor I go into work from 8-10 So hopefully by friday I will have itt disassembled and see what Im working with. I was gonna check the bearings but can you disassemble the block and have the block itself hot tanked and put it all back together without affecting the cylinder walls?... Keep in mind its just getting a new water pump, oil pump, rings gaskets and such. Its got stop leak in the coolant passages:mad: and from what i have been told that shit sucks for heat transfer.
