smokin5s
so my wife's Malibu shakes very badly over 70... we had the tires balanced, but that didn't help... any other ideas on what could cause it?
sprayin77
take the tires else where and have them balanced again i dont know though. if it only happens at that speed seems like the tires are unbalanced could possibly be a wheel bearing
Guest Removed
bad tire..? or maybe they didnt get balanced?(depending on where you take it) i know big tires shops sometime have issue with their machine.
Guest Hal
Try a Road Force balance.
Guest Removed
Try a Road Force balance. problem is..not many shops do it right.. have to do it with heat in the tires. your suppose to go drive the car for 10 miles, then road force them. Reed44
we have a road force balancer at grismer dowtown. 4th and main street. you may have a balance issue or a tire with a seperated belt
smokin5s
according to my wife, she said it's been doing this since she has owned the car, so it has had 3 different sets of tires and balanced 3 different times....

You are correct. When done right though, it can pinpoint those problems. Can you describe the "shake" more then? If it's been doing it the whole time, there's something else going on. smokin5s
car is smooth, it hit's 72'ish, shakes like crazy, about 80 it will even out I would say balance also if I hadn't gone to get it balanced multiple times.
Guest Hal
I'm still thinking you should try a road force balance with that.

Guest Removed
id be looking over the tires very carefully. and checking the wheel bearings, and lower control arm bushings(vertical ones always go bad on these)
Reed44
vibration in the seat or steering wheel?
smokin5s
steering wheel is where I notice it most while driving, but I can say that just about everything in the car is vibrating.
Reed44
how many miles are on it? you may have a bad strut(s) causing the wheel to bounce. even if you may not have a wheel balance problem, you should still have them road forced to eliminate a possible balance issue. the balancer will also tell if the tire is bad or not. like I said, we have a road force here at grismer downtown. BTW it has about 170k on it.
Reed44
its kinda butt rape but for road force its 12.50 a peace. with 170k you are definitely due for struts.
Dave1647545494
lots of guessing in this thread you need to have it inspected somewhere we do it for free as do several other shops we also do not charge extra for road force balancing

smokin5s
I actually have a set sitting in my garage... a buddy of mine goes to pick and pull at least once a week and when he sees new parts on the cars that we own, he typically grabs them for me Thanks for the offer though. Trouble Maker
you need to have it inspected somewhere we do it for free as do several other shops I was thinking at the very least he should try to go through the front suspension himself and see if there is anything obvious.
