They're trusting you to do your own technical inspection on your vehicle to make things are up to snuff. It makes for some interresting scenes every once in awhile but for the most part people are pretty good at making sure their cars are capable of running the entire day. At minimum flush and bleed your brake fluid if it's >2 yrs old and make sure you've got at least 50% brake pad life left. If it's your first time those will be the most important things.
