Need new Battery & key Fob Reprogrammed

Need a new battery for my 05 Pontiac Grand Prix and then need my key fob reprogrammed. Any suggestions on a battery without spending an arm and a leg? The other question is I don't want to go to the stealership to get my key fob reprogrammed, doesn't anyone know who to go to?

Wish I knew as well. I paid Pontiac Dealership on Morse 45 bucks to program my fob.

the battery is cheap at any auto parts store for pretty cheap... I know carquest for sure has them... try calling hightec they do any kind of key dont know their prices though...

 

look and sometimes you can program them by doing a couple things with the car like putting the key in the ignition holding the buttons turning it to assessory what not you get the idea see if you can find if the gp has one like that

there is a bigger chance the fob is junk than a dead battery just from past fobs i've replaced. and you have to have a tech 2 to program the fobs, looks like a trip to the dealer anyways.

high tech can do any type tch 2 coded keys caddy keys etc just again dont know their rates but that is who we use to program our keys here

Interesting points, I wasn't sure about the battery cause I know on some of the newer GTO's they don't work as well. I will look into trying to program the key fob myself

iirc the GTO takes an odd battery so you're limited to who actually has it, other then that the batteries you'll find will just be the same battery with different labels, get the best priced/warranty one you can find.

if all u need is the "key fob" reprogramed. all u need to do after u put the battery in. is hold the lock and unlock button for 15 secs. that should reset it. but that will only work if its not a brand new one

You cannot program the fob yourself. Just like AJ said, you need to make a trip to the stealership. I have a 05 GP. If you need any fobs I have like 3 or 4 new ones just sitting in my cabinet. Edited December 11, 2009 by Big Steve

Yeh, not only that but my car key fob was programmed with remote starter as well. That's the big ticket items that I am most concerned with.
