We carry some of the stuff used to work on model railroads at hobbytown. I think we also have the sheets of styrene (sp) that are used to build some R/C air planes as well.

 

You might want to check the craft, art, and other hobby shops to see what they have.

Any Jo-Anns Superstore will have what you need...from 1/4"-6"+. It can get a little pricey depending on the density, but they will cut it to size for you and you only pay for what you need. Sorry I sound like a dork. I worked there for three years.

If your going to start making seat covers, you will need an industrial sewing machine. You are setting yourself up for fail if you attempt to use a regular houshold machine. You make get it to go through most materials(not leather), but the stitch will never be tight enough to hold.
