Mini Cooper Questions

Recommended Posts

My girlfriend is looking at new cars and came across this Mini Cooper http://www.godardautosales.com/Generic.aspx?PAGE=Home&portalName=Godard Link doesnt take you directly to the car but select Mini from the drop down menu.

Does it seem like a good price? KBB says 12,800. What kinds of things should be looked for on a Mini? Common issues? Thanks in advance for any information.

biggest thing on those 1st gen ones is the automatic tranny. the CVTs tend to pop easily once the mileage gets up there.

look at the strut mounts under the hood. A very common problem is 'mushrooming'..

theyre supposed to be flat, but they tend to bend easily... fixed easily too with a BFH and some strut plates,

Appears to be very clean... these cars have terrible brake dust, and with WHITE rims that clean, more than likely, it was well taken care of... Most people just let them get screwed and it would show

seems to be a pretty decent price too

not sure if the packages are the same, but maybe has the winter (heated seats / wipers? / mirrors)

It’s pretty easy to simply say, steer clear from anything before 2004 when looking at used MINIs. But that does these models a huge disservice as they can be practically trouble free and incredibly fun to own. While it is true that the later years are unquestionably better built and better designed, every MINI produced as the ability to put a smile on your face like few other cars out there.

And your looking at an R50 MC if that wasnt obvious.... the R53 is the S model (MCS)

Money pits, they are neat cars but man are their issues expensive. Like the fan control relay that went bad on one and it's built into the $400 fan shroud. Have to buy it as an assembly. P/S pump and cooling fan as mentioned, their stupid run flat tires are expensive as hell.

I would LOVE to have one, but I refuse to because it isn't even cheap for me to fix as a tech half the time.

^^^ true, they are however quite easy to work on yourself, minus electrical crap. and you dont need runflats... most ditch them quick. Plus it think the 'Just-a-coopers' have a spare under the back, unlike the S's
