2wd vs. 4x4 truck

I wanted a diesel originally I don't want to spend $20K

 

whats your price range? if youre looking for something for as light of use as youre saying, you can get something without all the bells and whistles for way under 20k...

 

i picked up a single cab, 2001 f250, 4x4 diesel with only 140k on it for 9k (140k on a diesel is nothing)

 

not sure how the dodges scale in price though

 

mines got cruise control, but no power windows/doors/mirrors... itll tow more than ill ever have it loaded with

You know me bud I need the bells and whistles lol. I am looking to spend 10-14K for 03+. I did find a nice 00 F350 Ext Cab with the 7.3l called the guy left a voicemail and he never called back. Apparently people don't want to sell there stuff anymore.

from searching auto trader....you get more truck for your money with the fords...theyre easier to find in your price range, partly because if you get one, i suggest a 99-03 with a 7.3L, and with the dodge, youre looking at 03+...so the difference in years may be making a difference....

 

you can get a 7.3 4x4, loaded, 4 door etc, under 150k miles for 14k...

 

if you like the look of the dodge better, you might be better off getting the gas truck because of the price difference...you can get a comparable gass dodge for the same price as a 7.3L ford

i ran that same search just switched the ford out with dodge, and it came back with about 1/10 of the results lol...appears the dodges cost a little bit more, and you werent far off of that 20k you said earlier lol

Im looking for the same thing, but I wouldnt mind a dually. You can get a nice 7.3 crew cab with ~100k for 14k if you keep looking. Maybe even lariat if you get lucky...

I got my 04 cummins with all the bells and wistles for $15.5k at the North Texas Truck stop has 135k on it.

 

Again I have seen nothing but trouble with owners of 4x4 vehicles that stuff breaks and is big time to fix it.

 

also FYI, be aware of the possibility of the 'death wobble' on any 4x4 vehicle (no brand specific). Basically your front end goes into resonance.

 

A lot of people 'think' they know what is causing it and throw a bunch of money at it but never fix it. I know a couple of guys that sold their trucks because of it.

 

GOOD LUCK! More cheaper 2wds for me.

and when people fuck around with suspension parts to lift or modify 4x4 trucks, no doubt theyre gonna start breaking shit

 

the majority of bone stock trucks will never have that problem...in fact, the only problem ive heard about regarding the 4x4 at all on the 99-03 super dutys, is the manual hubs will sometimes seize...which is a stupidly easy fix, and you can replace both sides with warn upgrades for like $300 or less

Dodge front ends are junk and always need rebuilt if You use the truck hard or just higher mileage. Tyler you obviously don't know What your talking about.

 

i was referring to the death wobble, not normal front end maintenance shit like people replace every year on plow trucks

 

did you watch his videos? he was showing videos of truck almost falling apart, and saying that people dont even know how to fix it....that goes way beyond front end rebuilds that would be considered maintenance

While more stock 4x4's may have a bit of wobble than is reported, it's mostly only reported in the stock Dodge's and lifted Ford's and Chevy's.

 

 

That aside, unless you REALLY use a 4x4, just buy a 2wd. with the way the used truck market is right now, your money will go A LOT further with a 2wd. In the past year I have used my 4x4 once on pavement, and that was to get over the snow bank that the snow plow creates at the entry to my driveway. With good tires, weight in the bed, and a locker, 2wd is just fine.
