MackDaddy43
I decided instead of getting rid of my 3gs, I would just get a sprint line, and get an evo. I've been wanting to get a droid for a little while now, but haven't really ever used one more than just using a friends. What should I get / download? Is it worth rooting? Is it just like jailbreaking or what? I searched the forums for a little bit, but didn't see a whole lot. I will most likely be getting the phone this week/ weekend. sol740
I have an evo, rooted, running cm6. I was really wanting to run aosp, which is why I rooted, but SU permissions are nice, as is free wifi-hotspot. However I wouldn't say it's necessary by any means. Stock HTC Sense is perfectly usable, and you can tether via usb with pdanet, or easytether. Being able to use ROMmanager is probably worth the root though. And is pdanet a paid app, like on iphone? I would want to tether, but obv don't want to pay for it.
sol740
PDAnet or Easytether will allow free USB tethering(though you supposedly have to pay to allow secure sites). CM6 is a custom ROM based on the android open source project(aosp). So vanilla android with no SenseUI, and no bloatware.
MackDaddy43
Lol maybe I should get it before I try to understand all of this. like I said, I'm a total droid noob. This makes my iPhone seem even simpler. If I want something, it's not hard to get / install it.
sol740
Like I said previously, rooting and flashing ROMs is totally unnecessary. Using the stock Evo is a simple and user-friendly experience.

MackDaddy43
3rd post: How about the epic? I just saw that. It seems the specs are better than the evo, and it has a physical keyboard. Opinions?
Clifford Automotive
I just bought the Evo, Epic, and 2 Rumors. I dont know about the Epic being better then the Evo. If you really need that keyboard get it. But as Ive noticed, the keyboard hasnt been slide out since its been bought. So why pay the extra money for a keyboard that wont get used? If you go to the the pickerington sprint, ask for Mark M., he'll help you greatly. Tell him I sent you.

Nickey4271647545519
Epic is an ok phone, the samsung OS sucks big donkey dick though. I love my evo, I didnt even have my 24 hours and i had it rooted using unrevoked. So far I like sense, but I'd like to find another OS that works a little faster. So if anyone has suggestions on that, let me know. I like the way sense is set up, it's just slow with all the bloatware and junk.

morabu
last year i bought my Samsung Moment over the HTC Hero because it has the slide out keyboard. i must admit though, that i NEVER use the damn keyboard. if there is nothing newer when i upgrade here in a couple months i'm going with the Epic, simply because it has better hardware, with a much better graphics processor. a couple good informative sites are http://www.sdx-developers.com/ + http://www.xda-developers.com/
