Need help from the honda guru's

I'm trying to find info on a car this guy wants to trade me.

It's a relatively clean 1995 Honda civic

ex coupe with a jdm h22a and it's jdm LSD 5spd.

Very clean sleeperish.

I'm trying to find out if this engine in another car is a jdm h22a or a jdm h22a type-s. What are some ways to differentiate the 2 besides the type-s having a red valve cover and the stock jdm h22a having the black? if it helps, the side of the engine has the stamp h22a 3042374.

any help to figure out if this is a jdmh22a or a jdmh22a type s would be great!

thanks,

Paul

I would have to check with my buddy who is an H22 slutt. but there is a vin on the block somewhere and or circles on the head with dates in them that you can narrow them down with. I believe the Jdm H22A-S had red valve cover, then blue top honda vtec engines one was a F20B SiR-T from 97-up accord euro-r another was a h23a dohc vtec from accord/prelude.

I can call him later and ask for sure but i dont think hes up yet. maybe alittlelessordinary can jump in on this aswell.

From everything I know about them is there really isn't a way to tell without opening up the motor. Then again there might be a head casting number difference that would help identify it like some of the b20 engines. Not 100% sure though, I do know that some of the differences between the reg h22 and the type s is, the S has higher compression and a little bigger cams.
