thorne
What's the cheapest route to owning a LSX powered vehicle? I'm just curious what other peoples thoughts where. Motor swaps into other platforms acceptable as long as it does not prevent turbochargering. I think a 99 fbody is prolly one of the cheaper routes or maybe a lsx swapped into a older fbody chassis or even a gbody. ... I would love a LSX powered 85 Monte SS Then how would you get to 500+whp? Turbocharging + e85
Nickey4271647545519
gbody or s10 would be a cheap route.
thorne
I just tuned a turbo silverado 4.8 and that truck was a handful. Gbody prolly easier to keep planted
Mallard
FC swap or 240 swap seems to be the cheapest to me.

koolrayz
Then how would you get to 500+whp? 500RWHP is pretty easy with a 400+ ci stroker N/A Dont get me wrong I love turbo's but for 650RWHP or less it is hard to beat a nitrous setup from a budget standpoint
thorne
how much does that matter cost to buikld?
unfunnyryan
This. 500+ hp, twin turbo LS1. The wagons actually have GREAT aerodynamics for highspeed, and decent suspension setups. Sleeper from hell.
-Alex-
Foxbody. Buy a 2.3 car with a solid body needing some tlc, none of the drivetrain will be used anyway so none of that is a concern. Parts are everywhere for the chassis, new and used, same for the LSx drivetrain that'll be used. You end up with a solid and proven drivetrain in a solid and proven chassis. Win. Bam
Biggest drawback if you want high horsepower and it too hook in the FC/240sx's is the IRS. And swapping in a solid isn't a cheaper or easy task. Gbody ftw. foxbodys are too common.
Got-Boost?
Is there a specific goal in mind? Otherwise, you can buy a LS1 Camaro/Firebird for almost nothing these days...

Gbody ftw. foxbodys are too common. guys drag racing with the IRS seem to do fine on the 240sx , solid is ideal but with all the mods you can do for cheap it can be looked past and hook with some works. Here is pats old 240 from zilvia, basic sr20 Only rear mods this car has was solid bushing, kaaz lsd , and driveshaft shop axels. non shop cars are cutting 1.4 60 foots on the stock r200 rear ends, really does not take much to get 2650 lb 240 with some power and decent coilovers to get going. You can achieve 500rwhp n/a from the stock bottom end, but it wouldnt be fun to drive. It would be a monster cam and 3k$ heads with a 102 mm intake/tb setup with some big long tubes. Littleguy
s14 240's ftw. Light weight, cheap to buy, and I like the interior layout/feel of the cars.
AWW$HEEET
my next will be a gbody, but not LSX
Linn1647545492
You can make 500 RWHP on a STOCK MOTOR with a turbo kit. Just have the fuel to support it. Hell there are people making over 650 RWHP with a STOCK MOTOR with rod bolts and a turbo kit.
accel_is_my_drug
I know where I can get a semi clean 240 chassis...... Trick question. There is no such thing. Try a first gen RX7 super cheap super light.

Avenger1647545502
An LSx in a Vega or Monza would be an interesting car.

Patrick
+1 No reason to spend the time/money to swap when you can get a complete car ready to run for less... Bingo. Heck, I've got a 6 speed Z28 sitting around.
thorne
Thorne, you will have more money in the swap than if you just buy a high milage Fbody. Thats what I was wondering. I really do love the old monte and regal body though. I'm just looking for something i could slowly build over the next couple years and ultimately be 500-600whp. Sam1647545489
In a couple of years, 500-600 will the norm for alot of cars. Build a 900hp monte. http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t214/ls2sam/gusta_1.png
