wnaplay1647545503
My neighbor has an 03 z71 truck and somehoe all the transfer case fluid drained out. He had it towed and we just refilled it with royal purple fluid. The noise went away at startup but when its in gears and he moves back and forth it sounds like a chain or something is broke or loose inside. Any suggestions or does this thing need to go to a shop? Thanks
TA In Progress
Not sure excatly what goes wrong internally, but two of my friends have similar year trucks that had the same thing happen that you describe. One actually had a hole in the side of the case. Both had to have the T-case replaced.
Rocky31186
Check passenger side of transfer case. I've seen 4 chevy truck transfer cases crack there. If it sounds as u say. He needs to find a junkyard transfercase.

TA In Progress
you guys are thinking of the 2500 transfer cases. Both were 1500 Z71's. One was an '03 and the other an '05. Double checked with them here at work tonight.
AJ
are we talking about the same thing? the oil pump wearing a hole in the transfer case? i have never seen a 1500 do it only the 2500.
TA In Progress
I asked the guy with the 05 if he knew what went wrong. He said his was due to the oil pump wearing a hole in the side, and it was replaced under warranty. Not sure about the 03, haven't seen him tonight.
