Personally, I have a 2011 13in MacBook Pro that I like a lot. If you just need to be able to open and edit/create office documents, get OpenOffice. We got my wife the 13" macbook pro and she loves it. She hauls it everywhere with her and has never said anything about it being to heavy. It was cheaper than the air, and more powerful, and has a disk drive in it, which the macbook air doesn't. Oh yea, and get the software Pat said.
