HVAC stuff? - How sensitive are your loads? Using the above choices, computers are a lot more picky about clean power than a bunch of ballast-buffered metal halide parking lot lights. HVAC gear sucks massive inrush when a compressor starts up. - What fuels are available/desired? Propane and gasoline are easy to come by, but not the greatest if you need lots of power. Diesel can be a pain to work with, but is the best at driving really heavy loads. - Is this to be a temporary or permanent installation? If it's just an evening gig every couple months, you might just want to rent something. If it's an ongoing concern, then a permanent installation with proper transfer switches is preferable. - Single phase or three phase? I am going to be using it for battery charger and misc power on track days. My brother had trouble using a inverter generator with his 16V baterry charger and told me it couldn't keep up with the high current charge mode we use so I am not sure that is the way to go. xlr8tn Posted October 6, 2011 Report Share Posted October 6, 2011 if you're looking for small, light, and quiet Sam's has champion 2000i's for $449 up on Morse. I just bought one a couple weeks ago to run the camper on. I've been using a 5500 and what a pain in the ass it was to lug that thing around....weighs 160lbs. The new champion 2k's are rated the same as the honda 2k's for half the price of a honda. 53db, 46lb's, and runs 9.6 hrs on 1 gallon of gas. Very happy with mine. It has a smaller motor than the honda's (80cc vs 98cc) so it doesn't have the balls like a honda does but for what I needed it's perfect. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
