1badwrx02
Hey guys I recently installed my Tial Q BOV in my 02 Subaru WRX Mods -FMIC -STI Injectors -16G Turbo -Walboro 255 My front o2 sensor is bad also Now for the issue, my BOV is fluttering during partial throttle. It works awesome during low boost like the 0-5psi range and also when im at wide open throttle letting it loose. But when I am in the 5-15psi range and not gunning it it makes a flutter noise. Wondering if anyone has had this issue or seen it before, would greatly appreciate your help guys. Thanks.
DavidBaustert
Tial BOV's are notoriously hard to get setup correctly. Are you sure it's not compressor surge you're hearing? I've got my turbosmart set up that it doesn't open up for anything lower than ~12psi so it doesn't leak. This may be what's going on with yours. SRTurbo04
on the srt4 that was called part throttle boost..preety much the turbo was so small even at half throttle it woudl built boost but the tb wasent opening up all the way and all the boost woudl hit the un open tb and not being able to go anywhere and in doing so making that flutter sound. ad for the turbo ...not sure if thats the same suitation but when drivingt the srt it was a all or nothing kind of drive just my 2 cents
mjrsplat
Tial sucks, get used to compressor surge, or buy a better bov.
Mattsv8
tial is a good bov and gate. works perfect on my truck and many fast cars. you proably have too stiff a spring in it. and the engine vac is pulling it open with the pulses in the intake. get a sofrter spring and problem gone. http://www.tialmedia.com/documents/w3_tial_bovq_sp.pdf i had the same issue with mine had a stiff spring when i purchased it but i believe i went to the lightest spring and now its flawless. spooling 1g
Never had a problem with my tial?? +1 on checking the spring or the vaccum line going to it.
Mattsv8
i can tell you that most of the tial gates ship with a spring for a enine with a stock style cam. ie tons of vacume. wich is why the spring change is needed.
1badwrx02
Spring is not an issue I know for a fact I have a 11 psi spring and bought a 10 psi spring because people said the spring was too hard. But the 10 psi spring was too soft and caused my bov to open at idle causing idle surge. I also tried putting a spacer on both springs. But the 11 psi spring seems to work best. I'm thinking it's the throttle body problem. Did you ever solve that problem Paul?
1badwrx02
It is pretty much an all or nothing type deal with my car also. I'm assuming I'm going to have to get a bigger turbo in order for it to work correcty?
Patterson
:dumb: Tial sucks, get used to compressor surge, or buy a better bov. :dumb: Likely the spring isn't the proper tension rating.
1badwrx02
The spring is correct. Like I said I have tried the 10psi one and that's too small. The 10psi+washer worked, but nit as good as the 11 psi spring. The 11psi spring+washer was a little too hard.
1badwrx02
The 10 psi spring gave my car an idle surge, because it wouldn't stay shut
Patterson
What color spring are you using? The spring is based off of the vacuum your car produces.
1badwrx02
Yes I know how the springs are measured, I have the unpainted 10 psi one and the pink 11 psi spring which is in my car now
EvoXbmx
Where is the vacuum line? You want as close to the tb as possible. I hate trying to make a bov work right on a maf car
turboking15
Is this a mass air car or speed density? I had a tial with the 8psi spring in my dsm, (14" vac at idle) and it would be partially open at idle, but once you came up off idle it closed and stayed closed the whole time. 1badwrx02
vacuum line is run right below the throttle body, BOV is no more then 1 foot away from the TB on the piping
