The guy said that he would bore the block .030, and deck it as well. Combined with flat-top pistons (stockers have a cast valley as big as the Grand Canyon) I'm conservatively guessing this will bump compression from stock 8.4:1 to closer to 9:1. There are only a couple of performance cams available today for the 300 Inline-6. The one that he found was a Comp Cams unit for around $400 with valvesprings and lifters. Definitely money I don't need to spend on this motor! Will the bump in compression up the power output more? If so, roughly how much? Stock, these motors are about 120hp/245tq. If I find a cheaper RV cam for around $250 with lifters and springs, is it worth it? I'll upgrade the cast-iron "log" exhaust manifold, but I will likely keep the 1bbl carburetor intake system. twistedfocus1647545489 Posted November 10, 2011 Report Share Posted November 10, 2011 If it had alot of miles, putting a new cam & lifters in it while it's apart is probably good preventative maintenance, even if you just put a stock one in. A mild (RV) cam will certainly make more power too and probably not cost much more than a stock replacement. Do you want to have to mess with the carb and ignition? Do you really want to change it much from stock?
