Cliff notes at bottom

I decided to run my jeep through the automatic car wash (Captain carwash in canal) on new years eve.Which I always take my Jeep through automatic car washes. Pulled in and the wheel stopper was broken, I obviously didn't know. Made a noise when I pulled up to it, car wash finished and I pulled out. Sounded like something was dragging, so I got out to look. The car wash wheel stopper was broken and the air valve that moves the wheel stopper was also broken. The wheel stop took the whole bottom lip off of my bumper.

I talked with the owner on the phone, and manager on duty. Called the sheriff for a police report just incase they tried screwing me.

The car wash owner contacted me monday, which I was already out getting estimates to fix it. He told me to give him the estimates and he will write me a check to get it fixed.

I ended up choosing Rutherfords auto body because of the reviews. And people that I've talked to. The pickerington location would not work around my schedule and they wanted me to reserve a time for them to give me an estimate.. Even though I told them I need a new bumper, bracket, and splash shield.

So the captain car wash owner was very nice, he wrote me the check to get it fixed. I wasn't out to make money off of this, I wanted my jeep fixed.

Dropped it off at rutherfords auto body to get 1700$ worth of work done. I told them specifically... "Do not drill any holes in the bumper, as I don't run a front plate. Also I want to keep the old parts, they are mine. Just put the bumper in the back of my jeep." He said he wont put it in the jeep due to getting dirt on my intereor, so I said ok. I will put it in there when I pick it up, no big deal.

They called me after a day and said the new bumper they got is not the same. To edgumakate you, the 2006 srt jeeps have a textured center. They no longer make that bumper anymore, so I have a 2008 style smooth painted front bumper. So I knew it wouldn't be what I had, but was hoping they could get a textured bumper to match the rear bumper..

Went to pick it up late thursday night, they close at 6. Finally got there at 5:30. Went to use my card to pay for it, and they said no. They have a 1000$ credit / debit limit. Ok, Ill write you a personal check. No, there is a 500$ personal check limit. So my option is to get cash.. Oh wait I cant get 700$ out of the atm tonight. Even if I could they tell me "The phones, computers, and credit card machines all turn off exactly at 6pm." Ok Ill get it the next day.

So I show up today with the cash. Pay for it and check out the work. Looks great, paint and color is factory finish. Where do I pick my old bumper up at? "Let me go get it and I'll bring it around.."

I wait, and he comes around empty handed.... Really?? He tells me they have a refurb company that comes and picks up salvageable bumpers, And they took mine. I say ok... Well you need to get it back, or we will have some issues because its my bumper. And we agreed that I would be taking it with me.. So he said he would try to contact them and find out where it is. Hopefully he can get it back. I will be contacting the owner / manager about it if he doesn't get my bumper back. I could have EASILY sold it for 400-500$ on my jeep sites.

Cliff notes....

Captains car wash ate my bumper

Owner was very nice and cut me a check

Ruthafords auto body does great work but customer service blows

No body shop should have a 1000$ credit card limit.

They sold my bumper to a refurb business and probably wont be able to get it back..

And some pictures..

Not horrible damage, but enough to replace the bumper and the metal support..

Everything hanging off the bottom

And the new style, as you can see the whole center is painted now..

Thats total BS, you cant go anywhere these days and get the service/product you ask for and it be 100% correct. Hell fast food joints have ONE job to do and that is to prepare and distribute the food you order, and they cant even do that right! Sorry to hear man, hope you get your bumper back.

Issue about doing anything about it, is he didnt put it on the R.O. Like he said he was going to do.. So I have no proof that we agreed that I would take it. And he charged me 5$ to get rid of the bumper.

Almost as bad as dealership salesman, hide the small print..

Still no phone call, I have to go back there to pick up my other truck later. So I hope they find something out otherwise I want compensated for the bumper.

Glad to hear you got the bumper back. Was probably just a breakdown in communication. I know sometimes the guys at our body shop sometimes just throw the old/broken parts in the scrap pile and it gets picked up without knowing the customers requirements. And the chances of getting the bumper back is slim.
