A beginner group is a great place to learn the bike and get pointers on riding. Riding on the street is hit or miss, sometimes literally. Get your gear and wear it. Unless you know exactly what you are looking for, and I know you are just getting into riding again, see what they have. Anything you need, bounce it off casey and he will always take care of you. If you don't know exactly what you are looking for, let him help and point you in the right direction. There are smaller shops that will take care of you in the long run Vs. big names who don't know who you are. I went through the whole deal with going to several different shops, just checking them out.
