1990 Miata makes friends with 302

So one of my current projects is cramming a 1991 fuel injected 302 from a Grand Marquis into a 1990 Mazda Miata. The car was just too adorable to not change radically. I know this isn't the ideal 5.0 to use but it was a good deal, came with bbk shorty headers, a trick flow upper and lower intake mani, a HUGE billet TB, and some friends chipped in E7 heads and some GT cams and lifters. I will be posting pictures and progress updates as we go.

In the meantime, I am newish to V8s. Could anyone school me on dry sumps?

I am most likely dry sumping the engine so the car can sit lower and the motor sit lower within the car. Otherwise the oil pan sits 3 inches lower than the car OR you raise the motor and throw off balance more AND have to cut the hood. I don't really want a 4x4 stance or a hacked hood. SO dry sump seems like a viable option. Advice? Info? Opinions? Options? I am researching but would like some input.

Hope you like!

Nate I am unsure. I am new to this and have just been brain storming in my head. Most people just deal with the stockish ride height or cowl or cut the hood. I was looking into dry sump but looks like it will be a ton of money $1k-$2k. Someone recently suggested an external oil pump which would allow a slimmer pan.

Willy, you've got a deal. And I will call you tonight.

Hey Sean, I am doing well. Congrats on the engagement! Not much new. I have heard of the red Miata but haven't seen it in person. I have just always wanted a V8 miata, and kind of prefer the 302 for price, the sweet sound, and they are slightly easier to cram in than a LS.

When I had my miata I discovered that you can actually put some pretty wide meats under the rear of those cars. Not wide compared to a full size car, but quite wide for the size of a miata. I really wanna ride in that thing when you're done. I had plans and even an LS motor sitting in my garage but, became single soon after starting to compile the parts so it was either have money to give my 5yr. old daughter the things she wanted or build the car,so the car went. Oh well there's always more in the future. Please when it's done I need a ride in that thing.
