Look at the pictures in the 5post thread. It uses a small turbo to directly feed into the large turbo. Bizarre.

 

That is "compounding".

Most likely because of the drive power, VTG turbos carry an amazing BSFC.

The Germans are the best engineer's in the world, just ask them.

 

But seriously, that is pretty neat. I am sure with all the sensors and what not available they would be abl to monitor each turbo independantly. Therefore it wouldn't be so bad to work on. Although, it would be interesting to see what the aftermarket would do with this set up.
