Plastidip SRSLY?

Is the normal Plasti-Dip finish more of a matte/satin (from what I've seen on the site)? I'd still keep my truck red...

Interesing idea, as I actually get to keep the "patina" on the original paint, yet seal it off and give it a new, uniform coat of color that is cheap and low-maintenance, as well as repairable. I also get the impression that the color won't fade...Plus cleanup is a breeze, I'm assuming the VOC smell is nonexistant, I don't have to mess with primer, and rust protection won't get any better provided I do it correctly.

Only problem I see is the truck bed...no way Plasti-Dip will take even light abrasive abuse from loads of mulch or trash/yard debris...

F**k the Wagner Power Painter...can anyone tell me if you can shoot Plasti-Dip with an HVLP gun, or is the material too thick for the tip?

I plastidipped the wheels on the rover a few months back. Shit holds, it's easy to do, looks good, is cheap. I got the custom gun metal color, had a tiny bit too much blue in it for my liking but it works.

Here's a pic I took while I was a couple of coats in. I ended up giving it like 10+ coats and it could still use some more.

It's quite a bit darker now than what the picture shows.

Cool thing was that once it dried a bit, i just peeled it off the Land Rover logo on the center cap like a bauce

It is amazing stuff. You will find a cult following for it on any particular brand forum... Everyone on the MINI forum blacked out their chrome trim, and everyone on the FJ forum uses it on all the silver trim pieces to match the bumpers.

I had done the wheels on my MINI with it and it lasted through everything, even some winter.

It helped that the barrels of these particular wheels were already black painted.

Probably because you don't realize it.

I just did my interior trim. It was the most hideous fake wood. It doesn't even deserve to be in an econobox to begin with let alone a luxury car.

Before:

(not the best but you can see it.)

Now:

I'm now debating if I want to give it a shot on my wheels. I don't think my wheels has the right look for it.

Sooooo does this stuff actually protect somewhat like a clear bra would? I've seen similar products advertised as a means of protecting your car at track days, wasn't using the same name but I'd bet it was the same principal.

Dare I try this on the GT3 to protect it from the track?

...my biggest problem is I really enjoy perfectly polished and mile deep paint. I'm torn because of this.

It would protect it from most things, its pretty durable. Actually a lot of people put it on for winter to protect against salt etc. You can put it on as thick as you want.

To an extent, yes. It is tough to get a rock chip in it. I had my chrome-plastic trim around my MINIs grill done for over a year, through winter and everything and it looked brand new when I pulled the Plastidip off.

If I owned a jeep I would try to cover it up too.....

:dumb:

I love this shit.

What happens when you try to wash your grill? I would think that a good soap would soften it too much. I have zero experience with this stuff though.

Panduh...

Ive washed it 2 times already, it hold on like paint. Its just slightly rubbery. There are people that have this shit on for years i guess. It has everything to do with the surface and how many coats you do.
