zeitgeist57
Depends on the car, and overall style...
IVRINGS
Lightly tinted is good. Not blacked out. I hear the new rustoleum tint spray is the best. Lays better and is glossy without having to add clear like the other stuff.

Avenger1647545502
Why make it easier for careless idiots to rear-end you?
GSXRAntwon
Why let anyone but yourself make up your mind about what YOU want to do to YOUR car? I say if you like it, do it.
IVRINGS
Why make it easier for careless idiots to rear-end you? They don't have to be really dark. A plus would be if you put in a third brake light pulse kit.
Aesthetic_Influx
I'm a fan of crisp, bright tail lights, even when not lit. But that's subjective I suppose. I totally agree with the rear-ending issue though; most people I see during my morning commute can barely handle driving in a straight line without swerving or nearly missing someone stopping. BIGGU
tinted tail lights and drop in HID lights = race car dont forget that.
BBQdDude
I would do about 4-5 coats of VHT. That way it is not too dark. That is where I kept it on other cars. Now on my current one i went the vinyl route.

IVRINGS
VHT is so old school and looks matte. Tinted clear or the new Rustoleum is the thing to use.
Fubar231
Pics of rear end of the car your thinking about doing it too would definitely help people decide. Id probably do it, but do you have a 3rd brake light or something that lights up bright? I wouldnt tint them if theres no other light on the back thats brighter. Johnny2theG
99% of the time it's out of style, or complete rice. Occasionally (rarely) see some that are tasteful.

Rocky31186
VHT is so old school and looks matte. Tinted clear or the new Rustoleum is the thing to use. Depends how you paint them. People who don't know what they are doing spray vht on and call it quits. Proper way to do it is 3-4 coats of vht, 4 coats of clear. Wet sand and buff. I have done about 10 sets now with no issues. http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr133/probin007/163173A2-644C-45B0-A32E-97B490F152DB-6300-0000062A8BA88E97.jpg http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr133/probin007/F1CA450D-2A6E-4E7F-A059-8FEC040DB321-6300-0000062A7BBB64D5.jpg

Exactly how i did mine, except i did 5 coats of vht and 5 coats of clear, with wetstanding inbetween them if there were imperfections in the coats. Came out great.
