Second Gen
Question.. Looking @ the engine bay the intake looks tiny? Any chance that intake being restrictive? I know you are putting down some BA numbers and beating the shit out of that poor FC that was built to withstand about 160 ponies (Hence the cracked shaft). Just curious (Most of the Turbo cars I am seeing are running intakes large enough to suck in a basketball) >>>> ????? <<<< Agree with a couple comments stating the thread is a blast to follow. The intake manifold as in the plastic one? Its the stock Ls1 unit. Would a bigger one help? Heck yes, but I already cant use the power the car is making, so I am not worried about it. Video of that later...lol. Once I can lower the gear ratio SIGNIFICANTLY, the car should hook alot better. Once I can get the car to use the power its making, I will turn up the jam. Really, the next mod should be a Cam so I can carry the power into the higher RPMS. It falls off a cliff after 5900 now with the stock cam, but I have to rev to 6600 to have a change at seeing good boost on the shift to 5th (I go thought the traps mid way though 5th gear! 4.10 rear+26 tall ties+the suck with big power) How much do you want for your car? For $15k, I'll drive it down to Texas myself.

coltboostin
A few people have asked me how effective my 2 stage controler is. Well, here is a video. :yay: Its just a EVAP solinoid switched with a toggle controling the signal to the gates. http://repairguide.autozone.com/znetrgs/repair_guide_content/en_us/images/0900c152/80/1c/e3/58/medium/0900c152801ce358.gif The switch controls which side sends signal to the gates. I just bleed with T's to get the desired boost level. You can use a $5 home depot boost controler for each stage as well for finer adjustemnt, in which case you would have a $10 2 stage controler. I would work on a way to have it on a speed tirgger, but I dont have a speed sensor to work with at the moment. Cheers
coltboostin
All good things must come to an end. I took a deposit on the motor and told the buyer I would check the rods before I shipped. Low and behold-3 are visibly bent! I an sure there are more than have a little wave in em' but needless to say the deposit was returned! To recap-852whp@21psi uncorrected (872whp STD) Best of 10.2@146 on 15psi Bone stock Ls1, down to the cam! I have a 05+ 5.3 to try out with the "big" rods to see if the dyno queen can squeeze some Jam out of another $200 motor! Turbo set up will be new as well-only to try out a single set up. I have to say, it will be hard to beat the twins! We will see. Updates on LS JUAN 2.0 coming soon... http://i1003.photobucket.com/albums/af154/coltboostin/LsxRx7/IMG_20151209_085833254_HDR.jpg
miller11386
Any thought of just putting a cam and rods/pistons in your LS1 that is on the floor? Single setup should be fun. Have you decided on a turbo?

Have you decided on a turbo? I am going to resuscitate it in some form. Known good LS1 blocks are getting hard to find-and its almost 100lbs lighter than what I am putting in, so I think I will set this up as the backup motor. The pistons are perfect-so worst case I get some rods and toss em' in. As for turbo, I am very happy with how Chad@ On3’s turbos looked, performed, and are priced. I think I may be able to sneak 1000whp out of his 88mm when most of the internet thinks it’s not possible. I’m down to scatter a motor attempting it. coltboostin
Progress has been slow since I have been ramping up a new busienss venture and working on plans to build a house, but we do have progress! coltboostin
Things are starting to take shape! Took the trans apart for inspection. You know you are making some steam when you put enough load into the main shaft bearing race to deform the shim behind it!! Talking to Tick-they typically see this with 1200++ whp cars. All of the gears looked good with the eye ball test. http://i1003.photobucket.com/albums/af154/coltboostin/LsxRx7/IMG_20160103_134938659_1.jpg Auto 3.9 Ring and pinion getting the good Hill Billy Posi treatment http://i1003.photobucket.com/albums/af154/coltboostin/LsxRx7/IMG_20151228_240225095.jpg Not pictured-rear end/subframe installed with homemade Camber arm to try and bring the camber as close to Zero as possible. Motor and Trans back in!!! Now for turbo placement. Details on turbo coming later....... Whats your opinion- A or B? I like A for simplicity but it will be almost impossible to fit a full 4 inch DP. coltboostin
Updates are slow and progress has come in short bursts with the limited time I have for the car, but I made some big steps today after the fam left from Easter brunch. In the last few weeks I have Installed/filled trans (redline MTL with a quart of shockproof) Installed rear subframe/diff/filled diff with half havy shockproof half Redline 75-90 Mocked up/improved/finalized hot side. Wrapped all pipes-installed. 2.25 with a flex on the pass side. The spare alternator bolt point was perfect for a brace! http://i1003.photobucket.com/albums/af154/coltboostin/LsxRx7/IMG_20160310_140950451.jpg http://i1003.photobucket.com/albums/af154/coltboostin/LsxRx7/IMG_20160327_212038102.jpg And most important-first fire! Video This is a SBE 5.3 with an unknown (see-garbage picked) Cam. All I know is it was described as "had some pop" from the previous owner. Certainly sounds better than stock! coltboostin
I have been working on the finishing touches to get it back on the ground for a test drive. Everything goes well I will then work on IC plumbing and the exhaust. Slid the CHRA in, and made my feed and drain lines. The drain needed some massaging since the hole is so damn big. I made a flange to make it work. http://i1003.photobucket.com/albums/af154/coltboostin/LsxRx7/IMG_20160402_174013774.jpg Filter is temporary. I will be building something with a nice bell to get maximum airflow to the compressor. http://i1003.photobucket.com/albums/af154/coltboostin/LsxRx7/IMG_20160413_090143179.jpg First issue-BRAKES. My master cylinder was bad last year (was going to the floor on hard braking-fluid on the firewall) so I figured may as well install line lock while she is all apart. I have had a set since 2005 I got in trade-they were both locked up. With some PB blaster and a jump box I was able to get them working again. The Rx7 has 2 separate front lines out of the master, so 2 solenoids are required. Now I don’t know what idiot made these things-but they are NOT faired to accept a brake line. I learned the hard way!!! Nothing like doing the job twice. You have to get 1/8 NPT to brake flare adapters. I used some JB weld for good measure. http://i1003.photobucket.com/albums/af154/coltboostin/LsxRx7/IMG_20160413_090201662.jpg Brakes feel better than ever now! Once that was done I tackled bleeding the clutch. I fought with it for a good 20 minutes-it just refused to have any kind of pedal. Also noted it would not pull fluid with a vacuum on the bleeder. Odd. I ended up removing the master and bench testing it. It seemed to work as it should. I put vacuum to just the line, and POP-out comes the fluid. Must have been a clog somewhere! put it all back together and an hour+ later I have a great pedal and the clutch fully disengages as it should. As a note, I am and have been using the stock Camaro Unit. Nothing like free.95! http://i1003.photobucket.com/albums/af154/coltboostin/LsxRx7/IMG_20160413_090214468.jpg Should be on the ground for a quick test drive by next week. miller11386
Make your turbo Drain at least -10 if not -12. Different companies make flanges if you need one. IE OCD works makes a quality billet drain extention. Also if you bought a hurst line lock, there are provisions for multiple brake lines. When you have ebay knock offs, they just do one line at a time. And I recall going for fittings a few times to get my line lock installed. Keep it up! Dyno day is coming! I expect you to be there! I will be there! Not sure if I will be ready for full Jam passes though. I considered T'ing off the Line lock, but from a volume of fluid flow and proportioning standpoint, I didn't want to F with it with 4 piston fronts. Also, I bought 2 for the 4GX7 back in 2007 LOL. http://i1003.photobucket.com/albums/af154/coltboostin/RX7launch.jpg I actually bought them form summit- there where no china options available at the time.
