How do you guys feel about the 2002 Pontiac Aztek?

Fiancee found one she likes and I know nothing of them and don't see them on the road much. It's a nice looking vehicle for what it is and the price appears to be under KBB for being on a lot. They just got it in from PA

AWD 3.4liter

120k plus miles

$3499 is the asking price. Should I bother going to look at this thing? My negotiation skills are lacking I will admit. If I could get it for that out the door or a little under I would be happy so long as it checks out okay. One thing I noticed from the pics is the Anti-Lock light is lit up. It's about an hour drive for us.

That does seem to look halfway decent. I'm assuming you know but the Aztek is considered by many as the worst vehicle ever produced, May explain the price.

I only know what I have found on google. Most stuff I have found says they are reliable, just ugly as fuck

There aren't m,any vehicles on her want list for our price range. At the top sits a neon which is what we have now. It's just not big enough seeing as we have a 2 year old. I have found dozens of potentially good vehicles for us but she's a woman, so naturally this has to be an extremely complicated adventure.

I'm one for kitschy rides, but what worries me as they age is the Aztek is based on Chevy Venture technology: I've seen more than a few of them with serious electrical gremlins. Buying an Aztek - especially for someone not car-savvy - might be a maintenance nightmare.

I do all of my own car work. I just literally know nothing about these things which kind of worries me.

I think it's an OK buy for $3500. You can take it home for 2500 I bet if you negotiate well, 2800 is where I would set my mind going in.

I am not sure why but I have bad luck negotiating with lots. Private sells are easy, but I tend to find asshole salesmen that have no issue with me walking over $100-200 lol

$2800 would be a nice score on it in my opinion.

Recently did head gaskets on a 2003 Rendezvous with the 3.4. Hands down the worst head gasket job I've ever done. Most any engine work you'll be doing will be blind considering the cowl covers a good bit of the engine. Also, the rocker bolts have a tendency to pull the threads out of the head when torqued. Thankfully this only happened on the front head, because the rear head would have to come back off to repair. Time-Sert has a kit for this.

that sounds like a nightmare. We just found this vibe and I like it. Look at the pics some appear to be from a different car different color lol

I was going to suggest a Vibe. We have one and it has been the most reliable car we have ever owned. It essentially is a Corolla underneath as is it's brother the Toyota Matrix.
