Opinions Wanted on AMG

This thread is a spin-off of another thread (see Not-Brian's thread in Pics and Vids section about C63 AMG running from Swedish police). I've been looking into E63 AMG's recently. For instance, I test drove the E63 in the link below over the weekend and really liked it.

http://www.germainlexusdublin.com/VehicleDetails/used-2008-Mercedes_Benz-E_Class-E63_AMG-Dublin-OH/2171280023

The E63 above is a 2008. The current body style for the E63 is substantially different, though, at least in my opinion.

Here's the body style from 2008:

And here's the current body style (which, I think, went into effect on the 2010 models):

Which body style do you guys prefer? I only posted a couple of pics, so post others as relevant.

Also, feel free to weigh in on your opinions about the E63, other AMG models, and AMG in particular. I'm still in the information-collecting phase, so all the information you can provide is appreciated. I'm okay with critical opinions, too...just not of my hair or my abs.

I think the older models look more "masculine" IMO.

You'll always have the people who want to get the newest and greatest to "keep up" with the neighbors without any other desire. For me, Id' lean towards the newer chassis to get that amazing TT motor. Your just a flash away from amazing gains...

If you are not planning on ever modifying either, and you prefer the looks of the old chassis, seems a no brainer IMO.

It's interesting you say that, because I recall reading a car review (forget who it was) that actually made the claim that the older models have a more "feminine" look. I guess that just goes to show that opinions will differ.

Also, I'm not sure about modding it. Maybe, maybe not.

My vote is for the 2010+ body style. Headlights on the 2008 are :barf: to me

My wife said the same thing - hates the headlights on the older model. At first I didn't care and didn't even notice, but then after she pointed it out to me, now I'm wary of them. I guess I prefer the headlights on the 2010+, but prefer the back end on the older models.

Germain Easton has a 2009 e63 amg that's an awesome deal

I am still looking, but I'm set on an E63.

I test drove the 2008 E63 they have at Germain Lexus (or at least they had over this past weekend), and really liked the car. Minus some very minor rash on one of the wheels, the car is flawless. However, with all the engine issues plaguing that year, I can't justify buying one without a warranty. Unfortunately, they are asking more for it than what I can justify paying at this point, so it was a no go.

I think the 6.2 is one of the best sounding motors made, If you can afford it buy a newer one with the 5.5, the motor is amazing, if you want i can take you for a ride in one with the 5.5. Power at any rpm, and good enough to run 11.70's on street tires with traction control on.

And i may be incorrect but i think all the 6.2's have been plagued with cam and valve issues.

No matter which one you get, have a tune done to it, they are completely different cars.

I like the '08 better. I has the classic MB look. The '10 and up are too generic looking, can't differenciate from honda/huyndai/lexus from a far. Also the interior of the '10 and up have a very cheap feel to it, granted I have not sit in an '10 and up AMG.

Actually I think this one will fit you better ;)

I prefer the 08 only in dark colors.

It would be either black or white and, oddly, I find myself liking the look of the black better than white. I say oddly because I'm usually (at least in more recent years) deadest on white for cars.

Link?

The car I referenced is a 2008 and it's at Germain Dublin. So, could be two different vehicles.

I know you asked for an opinion on AMG but have you already ruled out the M5 or the CTSv? What about the S7?

No, haven't ruled out M5 or CTSv. So, would consider both. Reasons why I should go with them? I'm curious to hear input. As for S7, no. I love Audi in general, but I don't like the look of the S7. I drove one too and wasn't impressed with power. Beautiful car, just not for me.

I had a similar thought about the generic-ness of the 2010+ models.

And I am about 2 trillion dogecoins short of being cool enough for that G wagon.

I like the looks of the '08 better, but I think if I was spending that much on a car, I'd stretch the budget a little more for the newer technology. I'm not real familiar with all the differences between the '08 and '10+, but it seems like nearly every manufacturer over the last 5-10 years has made huge jumps in quality with each remodel.

Let's be honest...that's a driving factor here. :masturboy: Not sure what the used market has in the '10+ MY range, or what the prices are...so I'll pass on that but you'll DEFINITELY want to drive a '10+ just to see if the feel is dramatically better to go with the more masculine fascia.

I personally like the older body style, but anyone that thinks '08s are more masculine than the chisled lines of the '10+ is out of their gourd.

I've always been a fan of AMG, lamented that even C32's and C43's never came in a stick. The E-class AMG is a killer meeting of size, power, and performance: Not too big to hustle, not too small to be uncomfortable. Will be a premium sedan for the next 30 years.

A good friend of mine had a modified C63 (headers + intake + tune) and that thing was AMAZING. It sounded wicked, was stupid fast for a sedan, and looked great... He ran low 11s on an unprepped track with his custom drag pack.

Here was the dyno with just long tubes, k&n filter, and a tune...

I was seriously considering getting a c63 amg after being in his... I love the car.
