Forrest Gump 9
I'm looking to buy a Beetle within the next two weeks. I know some of them have some special color but what about the mechanical aspect? Are there anything I have to watch out for? Also, any local shop can get me the "Daisy wheel"? Thanks in advance. Cordell
It's now in the kitchen, so will this go anywhere? Or was it just a bad joke?
87GT
I hope you are buying a classic one from the 60-70s. If not something is off about you...

Forrest Gump 9
No, it's a serious thread. It's a bet with my wife. If i drive a beetle with the daisy wheel for a year, then I can buy a 911tt after that. Shit, I may move to German Village after the year too
Geeto67
what generation TT? because there are many who would say it is not worth it for a 996.
AudiOn19s
what generation TT? because there are many who would say it is not worth it for a 996. Depends on your wants and needs. I would have saved the coin and bought a 996TT over the 997TT if it wasn't meant to be my wife's daily driver. I know both sides of this argument very well she won and got the 997 cause the car was "for her".

I'd totally buy an N/A 996 IMS bearing be damned because I find it hysterical that beyond the IMS bearing (which can be fixed for around $2K) a set of headlights devalues the car to used toyota camry levels. POS VETT
The Beetle to get is Turbo RS-R with the 341hp twinturbo flat 6 and AWD. It comes with a 7-speed manual and 2-speed rear end to tackle the Pikes Peak. Watch out for the engine substitution for the ultra-reliable Subaru flat-6 as the original engine is prone to leaking mineral oil from the power steering pump into the transfer case. Those with original engine fetch more money as the owners likely have spent a small fortune into the misfortune engine. As far as wheels, Ronal Bear is ultra cute but it's 14" but it's lighter but it's so rare (I know, right?). Daisy wheels are stronger and it's 17", which, if my math is correct, is like 3i inches more than the Bear. My friend told me that 3i inches have made all the difference in the world, that it makes the world better, world peace, etc. But, what the heck she knows *rolls eyes*. Anyway, back to the wheels. I heard that some supercars had staggered setup. I think it would be totally cool to have a staggered setup in the Beetle SR-S. You see, the Ronal Bear is 14" and the Daisy is 17", this way the Beetle can have the supercar stance (I know, right?) for a fraction of the cost. Now I can't remember whether the 14" Bear go to the front or to the back? But you're supposed to use the same size wheels for the same side. No, wait, maybe they need to alternate, like, if you put the Bear on the front on this side, the other side would be the Daisy. That way you can totally double up the cool and the cute. The nice thing about the wheels is since you would buy a Porsche, they would totally fit the Porsche too since I heard this one guy in chatbox bought a Porsche and people called it a Beetle. Oh wait, or was it an Audi? Audi TeeTs maybe? IDK, those cars confuse me. They all look alike. I know, right? Anyway, when you have bought the car, please take many many selfies of the car. I heard that people got shunned for not showing pictures of their cars in here especially for a car as cool as a Beetle RR-R. Good luck with the purchase.
EssFo
HPA twin turbo AWD Beetle is the one to get. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/748dark/frankshpabug003.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/748dark/frankshpabug002.jpg But in all seriousness, IF you have to live with one find one that's at least got a VR6 swap. RyM3rC
Some of those beetles are REALLY expensive? Seems you could get a porka turbo quite a bit cheaper than a beetle nowadays. http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/carsforsale/porsche/356/1675466.html http://assets.hemmings.com/uimage/31441945-770-0@2X.jpg?rev=
Green Bastard
Did she specify what year the beetle had to be? Could you get an older one and put daisy wheels on it? If not, I would at least get the turbo model and do a little tweaking so I wouldn't want to blow my brains out for having to drive it. cstmg8
Agreed, not a fan of that, but I think it's actually bagged. I just think the patina paint jobs cool, especially for being dip.
zeitgeist57
Patina dip...now I've seen everything. Actually looks decent but that rear camber is disgusting. Srsly about Beetles...have you looked into a TDI? If you're going to commit to a year, at least have good mileage, good resale value, and a good excuse why you're driving a Beetle ("Because it's a TDI!") SRTurbo04
You looking for the new ones or the ultra lesbian version? B3NN3TT
The new ones have just a tiny bit of Porsche in the design. I agree, they do look kinda sweet, especially with the steelies and baby moons.
PRD2BDF
Should work out a deal with your wife. You drive the gayest version possible. You get to pick whatever Porsche you want. If you commit fully for a year, she has to commit fully for the next year driving the Beetle as well while you tool around in your Porsche.
