Zip/Compress files question....

So, I have never had this issue on my old computer however recently on my new computer every time I try and submit my homework via a zipped file I'm prompted to buy WINZIP, a file compressing software for my computer. ummm... doesn't microsoft already have such software built into windows?

I didn't think much of it b/c my files were still compressing and getting through, but recently my professor said there was nothing in my zipped file and now the WINZIP ad is saying I need to pay 29.99$ to use their services. WTF?

Sorry for the newb question's but i'd rather not pay 30$ for something that was previously free.

Yes Windows can compress and uncompress files. Uninstall winzip. It isn't as good as it used to be. If you don't want to use Windows built in tool I suggest winrar or 7zip. Winrar is shareware and will nag you to buy it but still work 100%.
