Where to Start.

This message is going to cover a number of topics. I hope you enjoy......

October 2015 marks 15 years in business. DTM started off as a weekend only mobile dyno for various car clubs and events. Since 2007 it has become a full time job with a continued work load year round.

A quick thanks to Anthony Green and those who were part of COFBA for hosting my first dyno day in 2001.

What has happened with DTM in 2015? Let's talk about Ford, GM and Chrysler Tuning first.

Ford

This year I have been able to spend a number of hours working with Ford's Copperhead and Tricore ECM for the coyote engines in the Mustang and F150's. I have learned a lot in what changes are needed to make a larger than stock throttle body to drive like a stock car. I also have been playing with the Variable Cam Timing and learning what the Stock, Boss 302, and Cobra Jet intakes like for cam positioning to increase power. I have seen gains of almost 20 hp and 20 ft lbs on some cars. With supercharger cars I have seen a close to a 40 hp gain and a 2-3 psi drop in intake manifold pressure moving the cams around from stock. This year has been a huge growth in coyote engine tuning. I hope to see twice the amount of these engines in 2016.

Ecoboost knowledge is increasing as well. Finding the limitations on the stock intank pumps, high pressure pumps, injectors, and the effects that it has on reducing power when maxed out by limiting airflow.

General Motors

A decent amount of exposure to the LT1 based engines found in the C7 vette and newer trucks. I have been learning what it takes to make these engines idle when changing the camshaft. To date I have done more boosted C7's compared to all motor cars. HP number just south and north of 600 wheel are easily obtained with a Procharger or Vortech based system. Gains in power and a decrease in manifold pressure is also being discovered while adjusting the cam timing. Hoping for more dyno time to experiment cam timing for both NA and Boosted applications.

Chrysler

Welcome to the world of ANN Artificial Neural Network. Just like Ford and GM I have been able to spend a decent amount of time working on NA and Boosted late model Hemi's. The injector scaling is bit more complex compared to Ford and GM. However this does work to our advantage when trying to tune around the Neural Network. Depending on the vehicle year, I have done some of these vehicles using conventional speed density tuning methods and others using the injector scaling to get the results needed for desirable fuel trims and air fuel ratios under load. 450 to 460 wheel is obtainable with a bolt on 6.4 challenger and 600 wheel with a supercharger.

Stand Alone Fuel Management.

A handful of Big Stuff and FAST tunes done this year. Taken a few cars from no tune at all to a car up and running with good drive ability and power. Hope to see some Holley equipped cars in 2016.

Harley Davidson

3 Harley Dealerships and non dealership customers keep the motorcycle drum spinning. HD's Screamin Eagle Super Tuner is dtm's preferred tuning solution for these motorcycles.

Installation???

I have a number of resources now for installation work. There has been some install work inside of DTM. We now have a automotive business next door that is switching gears from general repair to performance work. This has been a win/win for DTM and the other business. Parts are ordered and work is performed on a vehicle. Once the work is completed I walk next door to load a base tune in the vehicle and bring it over to the dyno to do my portion of things. Dyno and Tuning labor is ran through dtm while all installation labor and parts are ran next door.

IPS Motorsports

From October 2012 to July of 2013 and from August 2014 to present, I have had the opportunity to handle Ford, GM, and Chrysler tuning using factory ecms/pcms/tcms for a majority of cars being serviced. Not only did I have the chance to tune some really cool cars being worked on at IPS. I had the chance to make a number of friendships within the walls of IPS and I hope to maintain that friendship even though my services will no longer be needed. Most important to me was to see the tension end between IPS and DTM. In the end time lost in my shop was worth it to help IPS with their tuning needs for time I was there.

DTM Long Term Goals?

All I want to do is to continue to tune cars. I am not worried about hiring employees or doing work that does not involve tuning. I have resources in place for other people and other shops to get parts ordered and installed while I concentrate on tuning.

Lets see if I can go another 15 years!!!!!!

Be sure to like and follow the DTM page on facebook for updates on cars and motorcycles coming in for tuning work.
