Home weather stations

I have had a home weather station for a few years now. As I have had more and more of a need to know the weather coming and current, I have decided to upgrade my weather station. A huge factor of this choice is going to a larger color display and having more features.

I have a station picked out, but was wondering what the weather people of CR have at their home. I know there are phone apps, and many web sites for this info. Hell, my wifi thermostat will give me weather with radar. A home station is kind of a hobbyist thing these days.

Honest question, what's the point if you can just go to http://www.weather.com or something?

I have a few things outside that are weather sensitive, two years ago my home station registered -44.37 degrees with wind chill. I find that interesting, and the news had not reported those temps near me. My dad and I follow weather together, and I will likely get the same set up for him, in Vermont. Here in Ohio, we really don't get weather too far off from what VT gets. 30+ years ago, it was very different. What I linked above, I can follow his station and he can follow mine online.

That's over $1000 with software. Great gear, but I not that into it.

Maybe it's where I was looking that had high ricing. That wind sensor was $375 and that's when I stopped looking, knowing there was still software cost.

Software is only $149. $585 for wireless Pro2 hardware.

There are some pricey ones out there, and this one is more than I wanted to spend, but it does what I am looking for.

I like the pricing on that set. I particularly like that they have a reasonable price on replacement parts. I have had at least half dozen of the Clock/Temp displays that show inside and outside temp. I still have every one of the clocks. They all display inside temp perfectly. None of the outside remotes functioned for more than a year. About the second battery change was their life limit.

I was looking at replacement parts too. I have not run into an issue with sensors going bad. The sync process after battery change can kick your butt a little at first. Batteries for the unit I have now last about a year, and for all purposes, has been a good reliable unit. The one I have in my shop was left by the previous home owners. That one is a little janky with readings, but like you said, it's a good clock.

This is the model I have been running for 2 years.

I think i have the model below this, i have that display and that station, but none of the other things in that pic, parents picked it up at costco, they said they were flying off the shelves, im thinking they paid ~$100 for it. Might be worth looking into there. Here is a link to mine.

I have a La Crosse wireless station I bought 10 years ago with rain/wind speed/temp inside/out/. Worked great until my PC was updated and lost the RS232 connector. Now it sits on the wall in black and white wonder..

Many La Crosse ones out there. Just make sure your wireless will reach into the house.

Just one option (With wireless outdoor sensors that will span 200 feet) and has a lightning detector (Kind of cool)

Okay, now that im back at a computer:

1. What do you want to get out of your PWS?

2. Just looking for something to put hang on your wall or do you want to be able to stream it to to the internet?

3. What is your budget?

The one I linked is same one with a bridge and extra sensor for wifi and wil allow me to track online. Just $50 more.

With the one I linked, that's at the top of what I can justify spending. Anything more, and there is other gear I would consider. I'm looking for indoor and outdoor temps with windchill, indoor humidity, easy to read color display, ability to bridge and access wifi and online track.
