From my humble beginnings as a car guy playing Gran Turismo, I've loved the Yellowbird as a gorgeous piece of Porsche unobtanium.

May I just say, with all sincerity, that this is by far the cleanest and sexiest 911-based cars I've ever seen.....and one of the best-looking cars ever.

I glanced over the article - I know I couldn't afford it even if I wanted it. But from the Singer-inspired projector headlights to the LED tails, I love the look of this thing.

so I have mixed feelings about this. Ruf was known forever as a tuner of Porsches. Love it or hate it, at the end of the day the car was still a factory Porsche body and chassis (mostly). Sure it had a Ruf vin because Porsche would deliver a body in white - but they were still basic, compatible, galvanized, steel 911 bodies. Add to that end their stuff is legendary and their cars hold their value pretty well in part because of this.

But this car isn't a Porsche. It looks like a Porsche, it's laid out like a Porsche, it sounds like a Porsche. But it isn't. It's a "kit car". Is it the same as a poorly built Bradly GT or a 356 replica? no it isn't. But how much does that matter? I think we can officially say the compatibility with older 911 models has truly ended, so why not break with tradition and create a new body style all together?

At least with a singer, the car is still a 911 at it's core. Sure it's a 911 in sheetmetal, vin, and engine block only, but it's a real deal 911.

I guess what I am asking is - does Ruf really have the strength of brand to sell something that is no longer a porsche? and if so, why didn't they make something new.

The reason I have mixed feelings is because aircooled 911s are so damn good looking, and this looks like an aircooled 911. also this is what it looks like naked:

I think it's fanfuckingtastic. Instead of a bloated retro design, it's a very close replica of a classic built with today's technology to the max. It's a hefty price tag, which is understandable, but I hope one or two are throrougly enjoyed on video for peasants like myself to enjoy.

On a side note, with a bajillion 930 911's made ('70s-1989), why is there no eBay LED taillight option? :gabe:

Only 23,000 930s made worldwide 75 to 89. Porsche enthusiast wouldn't dare destroy the original content with upgraded LED nonsense, even though it would probably look better.

As an avid Porsche fan, I don't really care for it. It's neat, but the period clash is a little too much for me. The wheels are WAY to big for the body line. As a side comment, 17's are too big for the 930 chassis IMO. So these look ridiculous. I'm already sick of seeing the headlines of this car being "crazier" than the old one. It 100% won't be, at least not with that inboard suspension. The nuttiness of the old car was not simply how much power it made. Edited by Crossle

They said...what could we do to build the ultimate modern technology yellow bird tribute and knocked it out of the park. It looks funny because it's wider and bigger than it should be for that era car but it's what they've done under the skin that's amazing to me.

Complete carbon monocoque chassis

Carbon body

2600 lbs

Carbon ceramic brakes

Redesigned chassis to integrate double wishbone suspension

Inboard mounted pushrod activated coilovers (look at some of this in detail it's really impressive)

700hp Mezger

Rear drive

It's going to be epic.

I don't like the wheel proportion. Something is going on with that I just don't like. I like the style of the wheel. Too big and cartoonish maybe? Crossle gets it

And a a little too much velvet in the interior

Until you pointed it out it didnt bother me..... but after looking at it, its how small the fenders are and how far the wheel goes up into them..... definitely odd looking.

But at the same time I'll never own the car or prolly see it in person so who cares [emoji23]

If I had the extra cash to blow that's an easy buy.

Older 911's always have smaller wheels with bigger rubber so that's what throwing off the regular perception of them..

Surprised no one commented crying that it should have a set of original fuchs Lol..

I don't believe it's the size of the wheels you are looking at, but more than likely the placement, especially in the rear. Looks like they stretched the wheelbase, and took the rear wheels back and front wheels forward. The wheels are great in the well, but the placement is much different than the old car. Somebody should photoshop it and move the wheels back to the old car.
