Hey everyone, thought it was about time to start a build page!

 

So I have a 1993 240sx Convertible I bought late last year. I found this baby on Craigslist and drove all the way to Long Island to pick it up. Believe it or not, it has virtually no rust! The only rust I've found has been some surface rust.

This is my first project and I'm already learning a lot. It's certainly a lot more involved than I had anticipated.

 

Here's what I plan on doing:

 

2JZ motor converted to single turbo

CD009 (350z transmission)

Rocket bunny body kit

Suspension: considering air ride or coilovers

5 lug conversion with wide wheels

 

I've found the RB kit is either love or hate, incase you don't know, this is what the RB kit looks like:

Of course there are some other things that will need purchased... like I'm sure some misc suspension components (i.e. tie rods, sway bar, etc). I'm also likely to purchase bigger brakes which may include new brake lines.

Next up on the list is to get the RB kit and get the car painted. I'm considering a grey matte color with copper wheels.

Yeah, no kidding!! I was a little naïve in the beginning thinking I could get everything accomplished quicker... I've since gained a more realistic understanding of the man hours needed lol.

 

As much as I want it finished, it is a fun learning process

Rocket Bunny kits look really good on low-slung, curvier cars. There was a BRZ/FRS at Cars and Coffee with a kit and it looked awesome. However, when I look up BMW E36 Rocket Bunny kits, I throw up a little bit in my mouth.

Clay, how could you hate this? It's like an updated version of the E30 M3 wide body:

I don't care for the visible fastners or hellaflush wheels but a good fiberglass and filler job could hide the body seams. The other one for the vert looks like a gundam sex toy.

 

 

new guy: Good luck with your project. The only advice I can give you is make a plan to tackle each project and stick to it. A plan isn't based on time, but work to be completed. This is an ambitious project so good luck. The one thing I can tell you from working on bikes and cars for a hobby is that the more likely they were to run and drive the more motivated I was to work on them.

 

personally I like RB's vert drift car more than their full blown body kit:

I was going to ask why you didn't opt for the RB kit that makes it look like an old Cuda but then I realized that's an S14 kit.

I guess it's more the wheels...I get stance/hellafrush when you're dealing with factory fenders but WHY DOES EVERYTHING HAVE TO BE SO POKEY-CAMBER'Y????

 

That last pic of the Nissan looks great - because when you widebody the car you can still go wide with the tires without rubbing all the fucking time.

I look at the hella flush thing in imports like the straight axle gasser revival trend in musclecars. Once upon a time race cars looked like that but now people do it because it looks awesome at 5mph in a parking lot:

Ah, I love me some 240 builds. I had an S14 with an SR20 blacktop swap (I didn't do) and an S13 with an SR20 redtop swap that I did do. Loved them both, fun cars. Funny, I bought my S13 in NJ because I couldn't find any non ragged out pieces of shit here locally. Good find man!

I love that E30 kit. I saw a E30 with a 2JZ swap I considered buying back when I was looking.

 

That guy with the vert was/is selling his car. I thought about buying it but he was asking more than I was willing to pay.

The 240 RB kit comes with a couple of wheel/tire size recommendations. After getting the fenders installed, I'll do some measuring to pick the right setup - it's not going to be hella negative camber like the VW guys like to do. It looks great on the right setup, but it's not my style.

WHO-DEY! Thanks! One reason I went with the 240 is part availability... it's insane the choices for these cars.

 

First car project and you're going for full engine swap and widebody? Agreesive. I wish you the best. Lord know I'm not taking on something like that.

 

Might as well make it what I want it :) There are plenty of write ups and resources for the things I want to do. They don't cover every detail (I'm finding) but it gives me a chance to really learn about the car and the setup!
