B-Mac
If you switch or replace a ECM or ECU, (if that's what you call your bikes brain box). on your bike will you lose your mileage data on the newer digital dash screens? I have heard that it's stored in both. Edited January 11 by B-Mac
Tonik
I only know about bikes I have had. On the Wing, the Vulcan and the Nomad no the miles are not part of the the ECU/M. The manual Wing has 10 computers for all that stuff. The DCT has 11. No idea which one contains the mileage.
motocat12
On my 14 I have a backup ecu with a race map and no mileage issues. Chipped keys might be locked to an ecu too.
B-Mac
Thanks for the response. I switched out to check and no issues. Now I have a spare at $25.00 from a crashed bike in AZ.
Tonik
I have it on super good authority that on the Wing it is stored in the digital dash itself. That actually makes a lot of sense and I bet that is true of all bikes.
Pauly
My only experience with dash swaps is my former life as a Nissan tech. When we ordered a new gauge cluster, we had to sign an affidavit for the mileage so the manufacturer could preprogram odometer to read the same mileage. ECU never played a role.
