Tony07R6
As the title states I just started shopping for a new TV to replace the one in our family room. Currently I've got a 60" Hitachi LCD Rear-projection. It's about 5 years old now and I've never really enjoyed the picture from it and now I'm ready to replace it.So I went to HHgregg yesterday to look around. Originally I was thinking about going with a 65" Mitsubishi DLP, but after looking at it and talking with the salesman @ HHG I think I'm crossing it off the list. My neighbor just recently got a new 55" LED LCD and while its nice, I don't think I can drop down to a 55" from 60". I'm sure 5" isn't going to make a big difference, but if I'm going to upgrade I may as well go a bit bigger... So I was steered in the direction of the 65" Panasonic Viera Plasma. Does anyone have any opinions or experience with this TV? I know someone on here works @ HHGregg, I was given a price of $2,199, is this a good price or can I do better? V4junkie
Panasonic makes a great plasma. I wouldn't worry 5" so much. Picture quality trumps size everytime.
siggywiggy
damn, why the hell you need that big of a tv? The best picture i have ever seen on any tv is a vizio motion flow....you all might say vizio sucks. I have a vizio and my buddy has the 120hz vizio motion flow and its the best picture i have seen. Im sure the 240hz is a bit better but not sure if they offer it that big. Im guessing 50" is about as big as they go.

Their new 55" LED LCD is a very nice looking set and it is also on my list. Check it out http://www.vizio.com/flat-panel-hdtvs/vf551xvt.html I'd actually take this over my neighbors Samsung 7 series LED.
ohdaho
65" Panny for $2200? Thats a really good price if its a Viera 1080p with 600hz.Depending on the model those things start off at 3300 in that class and go higher. What model is it and what are the specs? If youre going that big I hope youre going 1080p.

I got the 47" for the bedroom because that's where I play my Xbox360, the picture quality on my rear-projection was crap so I couldn't play it on that. Plus, the 47" fit perfectly in the cabinet we have in the bedroom. Plus porn is better on a big screen:D

You're "upgrading" by moving to the newer HD technology & getting rid of the rear projectionI got a display unit 50" Vizio plasma 1080i on clearance last year for $800, & absolutely love it so far. Still find myself amazed sometimes at the picture clarityNo way am I spendin' $2 large on a TV

r1crusher
No way am I spendin' $2 large on a TV That's only because he'd have to whore out his best sheep to get that kind of coin and then there wouldn't be much left for himself. It's difficult to go into a store and look at TV's because they don't calibrate any of them. Take two TV's in a store, one name brand and a lower end one. The name brand one 'looks' good and the other crap. Now take and calibrate the crap one and it will look tons better. Look for a TV that has a good range of controls to adjust the picture as well. Because if you ever want to calibrate it and can't adjust say a green push you'll never get the best image. V4junkie
I'm loyal to Samsung in general. Well reviewed and great bang for the buck. Always best to do research. I picked mine because it had true colors and deep blacks, haven't seen any other brands quite match it.
Tony07R6
Best thing you can do for yourself is buy a samsung LCD. They are the best hands downSamsung may have the biggest name and greatest market share, but I have a friend that is on his 3rd Samsung 50" LCD in the last year. Luckily the place he bought it from has been really good at replacing it under warranty. If I were to go LCD, I think I'd definitely go with the new Vizio. For the price, it can't be beat and I haven't had a single issue with my other one. I think I just want something a bit larger for the family room, I believe we'll be sitting back about 13ft. from it.I've read some really good reviews of the panasonic P65S1, but I have a couple of concerns regarding the plasma. The first one is from what I've seen in the stores is the plasma's screen isn't as bright and vibrant as an LCD, and the other thing that really irks me is that the plasma consumes about 750w of power vs. the LCD's 154w.
V4junkie
Plasma is not well suited to a lit room. It works great for home theater but washes out easily. Turn out the lights and you can't beat the color, speed, and deep blacks.

My room mate thought it would be "hysterical" to pause gay porn on my TV while my girlfriend and I were on vacation for 2 weeks, thus burning and image into the screen. So...If you dont mind a sillouette of a skinny white guy taking a load in the face from the biggest black penis in recorded history forever adorning your new TV, Its yours. Plus I can tell you numerous reasons not to get a vizio, I don't like to rag on other companies much but there are much better TVs out there for your money. That Panasonic is a great TV or the 63" Samsung if you want a little brighter picture. Before you buy anywhere else at least see what I can do for you. Plus I caution all of you not to buy online, I have had many customers get screwed buying online from the cheapest places.

I've got one closer in Akron, but we just happened to be in that area on Sunday. The price they gave me was $2199 on the Panasonic TC-P65S1, I didn't ask if they could do any better because I wasn't ready to make a decision that day. They came up with that price by looking at BB and Sears and wanted to beat the Sears price they found. I did like the looks of the Panasonic and it seemed to be a great value for the size.I don't know if there's much you can do for me since you are in Columbus and I'm in Akron, but if you can do anything let me know. I wouldn't be totally against a drive to Columbus if the deal was good enough. Also, I wouldn't mind the samsung 63" plasma PN63B550 if HHgregg carries it. Amazon has it for $2333.
