Radar Detectors (car)

Lol, you guys and your theories. Depending on the offense is whether you're getting off or not. I've gotten a warning where the cop mentioned having a radar detector and gotten a ticket where the cop didn't mention the radar or the lack of a front plate. It's all dependent on the officer. I average one encounter every 1.5 years.

And no, not all radar detectors are equal. There's testing to prove that. Look it up.

I haven't had a radar detector for years. It gave me a feeling of security. One, in which, I could drive free, to see the sites and enjoy passing every car on the road. There was no need to watch out for a Statie! I had a state of the art radar detector, that would tell me they were up the road.

Then Staties got wise and mounted the radar to there cars with an "instant on" button, only targeting cars that looked like they were speeding.

Suddenly my detector goes off, and he targeted me. At that point, I felt a spent $200 on a devise that simply tells me to pull over!

Haven't had one since.

A radar detector is a tool. I like mine, but I still use my eyes as my primary anti cop detection unit.

Wanna tell me all radar detectors are created equal?

First of all,I never said all were created equal. I said...

Well in that case any old detector even a pos is gonna do just fine. Why spend $400 on something when a $70 units gonna do just as well.

And the graph in the link you provided proves exactly that. EVERY detector in the test picked up a signal at the furthest distance in both instant-on and constant-on.

So why pay more for one over the other? They all worked.

You mentioned being concerned with a "contant-on" situation, my point in

this is that even a pos walmart special is gonna pickup that contant on signal, the biggest difference in the more expensive units is extra perks and filtering.

But hey, go ahead and spend $400 for a fancy unit, it's your money. But the money you save on a pos model

could go towards the eventual ticket :D

I still wholeheartedly disagree with your assessment. I've had 3 over the years...a cheapo Cobra, a mid range Whistler and an upper middle range Escort and guess which one was the best :D

Thankfully my paranoid ass never became complacent and still was cautious in areas I knew cops always sat. I've always had a good eye and some luck behind me in regards to figuring out where the cops are but I can't tell you how many times it saved my ass

This is probably better than a radar detector.

The chances of you preventing a ticket are slim to none, cops are wise to the ways of the speeding and radar detector -- this isn't exactly cutting edge rocket science. And, with the new ruling in Ohio -- cops can bust you just by "visual estimation" of your speed. Total BS, but that's the way it is at this point. So unless you jam the radar and have one of those MiB memory erasers a radar is an expensive equivalent of one of these

"Ohh! Look at the flashing lights"

Meh, everyone's entitled to their opinion. And for the record, I use a Fuzzbuster FB-3500 in my personal vehicle,

have had for a long time now and it does just fine.

I don't speed in my work van, it's gps-tracked and I get in trouble for going over 67mph for more than 5minutes,

so there's really no point, lock the cruise at 65 and wave at everyone as the flip me off cause I'm going to slow.
