No one ever mentions the taxes paid because it ruins the rhetoric of how "Americans have it so good and need to shut up." I'm assuming you're talking liters here.

Using xe.com, GBP 0.48 is US $0.75. 1 US Gallon is 3.75 L.

So without taxes you're paying roughly US $2.80 a gallon.

A gallon of gas (87 octane) here in Eastern TN was around US $2.95 the last time I looked. US $ 0.214 is state tax, federal is US $0.184 which means gas minus taxes here is US $2.55 which is really not all that much of a difference.

20 minutes out, watch out for Ohio. Those guys will give you a ticket.
