Rules for kickin' ass

(a couple of days late for Memorial Day...or way early for Veteran's Day)

We know that the current state of affairs in our great nation has many civilians up in arms and excited to join the military. For those of you who can't join, you can still lend a hand. Here are a few of the areas where we would like your assistance:

1. The next time you see any adults talking (or wearing a hat) during the playing of the National Anthem -- kick their ass.

2. When you witness, firsthand, someone burning the American Flag in protest -- kick their ass.

3. Regardless of the rank they held while they served, pay the highest amount of respect to all veterans. If you see anyone doing otherwise, quietly pull them aside and explain how these veterans fought for the very freedom they bask in every second. Enlighten them on the many sacrifices these veterans made to make this Nation great. Then hold them down while a disabled veteran kicks their ass.

4. If you were never in the military, DO NOT pretend that you were. Wearing battle dress uniforms (BDUs) or Jungle Fatigues, or telling Others that you used to be 'Special Forces.' Collecting GI Joe memorabilia might have been okay when you were seven years old, now it will only make you look stupid and get your ass kicked.

5. Next time you come across an *Air Force* member, do not ask them, "Do you fly a jet?" Not everyone in the Air Force is a pilot. Such ignorance deserves an ass-kicking (children are exempt).

6. If you witness someone calling the Coast Guard 'non-military,' inform them of their mistake -- and kick their ass.

7. Next time Old Glory (the US flag) marches by during a parade, get on your damn feet and pay homage to her by placing your hand over your heart. Quietly thank the military member or veteran lucky enough to be carrying her. Of course, failure to do either of those could earn you a severe ass-kicking..

9. "Your mama wears combat boots" never made sense to me -- stop saying it! If she did, she would most likely be a vet and therefore would kick your ass!

10. "Flyboy" (*Air Force*), "Jarhead" (*Marines*), "Grunt" (*Army*), "Squid" (*Navy*), "Puddle Jumpers" (*Coast Guard*), etc., are terms of endearment we use describing each other. Unless you are a service member or vet, you have not earned the right to use them. Using them could get your ass kicked.

11. It's the Veteran, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press.

It's the Veteran, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.

It's the Veteran who gives us the freedom to demonstrate.

It's the Military who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.

12. Last, but not least, whether or not you become a member of the military, support our troops and their families. Every Thanksgiving and religious holiday that you enjoy with family and friends, please remember that there are literally thousands of soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen far from home wishing they could be with their families. Thank God for our military and the sacrifices they make every day. Without them, our Country would get it's ass kicked.

13. If you ever see anyone singing the National Anthem in Spanish -- KICK THEIR ASS.

I've noticed many military veterans and retirees complain about people who only do 4 years and use that 4 years to certify themselves as a soldier for life. I was with a military retiree once and he was going off about these guys that do 4 years, quit, and worship the brotherhood like they're a lifer or something. He was on a huge rant.

What is your opinions to that? Discuss.

A soldier for 4 years is no less of a soldier than someone who did 20. I'll add that in wartime, a Spec4 or below is cannon fodder...and if they can survive that, they can worship all they want.

Now..have some common sense and realize you were in there for 4 years and didn't make a career out of it. Give the lifers their respect.

Having said THAT...what's the difference between someone who drove a forklift for 20 years and retired, and a grunt who did 4?

Want my opinion on that.... A soldier is a soldier is a soldier... Wheather it be for 4 years or 40 years. In the Coast Guard or in the U.S. Special Forces. No more and no less of a man. I also feel it makes them no more or no less of a man than you or I. In for 5 and take a round in Iraq or in for 18 and never take a hit.

Take this for what it is worth. continuing education should start at the military. I personally feel that every student should come straight out of high school and go directly to boot camp. Serve at least 4 years and then be free to pursue what ever they wish.

I know I know, this is a dream world. But, I believe this would rid the earth of these sissy whining asses like Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan.

Lifer's I have always said they have had a choice. They could stay or go. My dad that did 12 years as a Sgt in the army (before anyone starts their shit... some of his time was served in Vietnam in the Airborne), left to pursue a job at Rockwell int.

His opinion on this is the same. If you feel you need to do more than 4, go ahead. But, he also feels everyone should do at least 4.

I knew a few that did barely 6 to 12 months in the Army. They died in combat. I think I 'll count them.

edit: Besides, in time of need, the Army is built up with 2 year draftees sent straight to combat.

I think we better count all of them.

edit2: Thinking... both my Grandfathers fought in WW1, probably only two years or less, one Army, one Marine. My Father is a naval aviator, F6F-5N night fighter pilot. Also probably two to four years before getting into the reserves. If anyone doesn't want to count them, I would be unhappy. And ask my Mom to kick your ass.

I did 4 years in the Air Force and I know why I served.I always felt that EVERY American owes the men that served before you,it's much more than putting a "I support the troops" sticker on your car and never serving.I payed that debt.I don't care a rats ass what those lifers you're talking about say.

Hey my dad only did 4 too...so I got no hate. My brother-in-law did 4 in the Marines as well. Father-in-law retired military though.

I did seven in The Corps. Were it not for me desire to procreate and spoil this Earth with my seed and breed, I might have done 20. And I give the lifers much respect. A very good friend from H.S. is getting ready to retire in a year or so and left for Navy boot camp the same day I left for Parris Island. Extremely proud of him, but proud of my time as well. But if you raise your right hand, took the oath and lived it, then you have my respect as a vet, any and all service.

I lived around Junction City, Milford, and Manhattan back in 2000 for almost a year. Drove through Ft. Riley a lot. I remember going through and a tank would be next to me in one of the fields.

Oh snap..I was there until..1995 or 1996 I think. I wish I had spent more time in Manhattan, but the college crowd and military crowd doesn't mix well. I spent a lot of time clubbing in Topeka.

Man, I had no idea..but the women from the surrounding states...Nebraska...etc..and the military mixed family presence....wow...some of the most beautiful women I've ever seen.

How I got out of there without any kids is a miracle.

I stayed at KSU many, many times. Partied hard there. I wasn't enrolled though. I was there for the booz and women.

Shoot, at Ft Knox, the M60A1s would be on the road in front of the barracks, drag racing at the stop light. No escorts, they wandered around all over Ft Knox. That was 1970, of course...
