I was at the Dayton airshow when a storm like that came in. When the flight schedule paused, and changed up and the commercial aircraft stopped landing and started fleeing.... I went for the car in the parking lot. Heavy rain and wind just as I got there. The storm pretty much flattened the place.

WOW! That was crazy! I thought it just fell on the band, not on innocent, yet stupid, fans.

With a storm like that moving in, that nonsense should have been cancelled and evacuated to avoid such a tragedy. Hindsight I guess.

They were watching and preparing, and had just decided to evacuate the grandstands. The gust of wind was in front of the storm. There wasn't enough time. The stage fell on the VIP section up front.

I generally don't stand down wind of tall objects, in high winds, that are temporarily attached to the ground.

wow...new regulations coming to a concert event near you

Highly doubtful. When you buy a ticket to an event, that ticket acts as a legal waiver that releases the venue from injuries or death that result from the event to which the ticket was purchased. The only way a lawsuit could be filed is if willful neglegence was shown by the State fair or the company that built the stage. That is not to say that the families of the victims won't recieve some sort of compensation due to the sharks circling in the pond.
