Honestly, none of those lol. You get what you pay for in a PC and HP's, Gateway's and Dell's are all junk. Look more for Asus, Toshiba and Lenovo. But what you are wanting to do I wouldn't go with anything less than a dual core with 4GB of memory. The Lenovo you picked is OK, you would need to increase the memory and the processor is an older generation of the AMD dual core but out of all of them you listed, that one is the best IMO.

I've been in the IT business for over 10 years and I agree with the previous post with the exception of Toshiba, they are junk as well and I used to be a Toshiba warranty technician.

I have seen decent useful life from Asus, Acer, Lenovo and Dell computers that were purchased from Dell, and not from the big box stores. The Dell machines sold at Best Buy, Walmart etc. are not the same machines that Dell sells directly, they are manufactured to meet the price points the stores demand.

My advice to you is to go to a reputable site like Newegg and build your own tower using good quality components. You can buy a barebones system so you know all the parts will work together.

HP was once a reputable name for computers, printers and more but they have gone to great lengths to destroy the brand in the last few years.

Honestly Parks, getting a barebones deal on Newegg, mwave, tigerdirect, stuff like that would be about the same price as buying a pre-built. Not only do you have quality components vs. whatever shit the OEM's would buy in bulk, but you have the ability to expand and add on as different things come up. Think of it as a AR build, you know that building your own is superior to just buying a stock build and hoping that they didn't use shit internals or not being able to put things where you want them. Whether Cdubyah knows some guys locally that can put these together for you, or you come to me you're going to get a lot more bang for your buck this way.

my hp has a asus motherboard. in fact it has all name brand parts stock.

hitachi hard drive

hyundai memory (odd I know)

asus mother board with Nvidia north and south bridge chips

Nvidia graphics card

antec power supply

samsung dvd burners

Nvidia network card

antec fans

Realtek HD 7.1 surround sound card

HP is a lot better than dell and compaq (hp owns compaq) and probably gateway as well. although gatways have become a lot better too.

nothing is better than one you build from scratch though.

Maybe the desktops are better than the laptops, not sure, but I do know that when I was working at best buy I had never seen so many computers with trackpads popping off, bezels around screen misaligned or missing screws, dead pixels, MISSING OS's!!! All of these issues were with HP laptops or all in ones so I'm not sure I trust the manufacturing of the computer, the components may be good but it's put together by what looks to be a blind man with one hand. And these were strait out of the box issues that I found working in geek squad, not customer units that had been messed with.

Hey hey! I bought my Dell 3 years ago. It has the i7 920 "8 core processor", came with 6 meg of ram. 750 gig h/drive ATi Radeon HD 4800 series

Still a nice computer 3 yrs later. I added 4 terabytes of h/drive. And 12 more gigs of ram. Looking to add a blue ray burner next.

Its good to see you got 170,802 times the memory it came with! They always cheat you out when you buy a pre-built

With windows 7 microsoft finally brought 64 bit architecture from the server systems down to home and business operating systems. Software is still quite a bit behind, so the majority of common programs will still be operating in 32 bit mode, and 64 bit windows handles that very well. Having the ability to go beyond 8 gig of memory is a nice feature to keep that computer useful for a few years but it would be overkill to install more than that for the time being and for most people's needs.
