Welcome to OR. +1 on the rider course.

But to bring you back down to reality, you won't save $ on gas by buying a bike.(you can use this excuse to your better half/s.o. if necessary)

Spending $500-$9k on a bike to save $ on gas doesn't work out until about 2-3years at the earliest. I could do the math for you if necessary...my regular car only gets about 12mpg & bike gets about 42mpg....but unless you are driving 50-75 miles per day, 5 days a week, and rode April thru Nov. Mon-Sat rain or shine, it will take some time to break even on the purchase price of the bike and all the related gear that is associated with it. So, buy the bike, take the course, go out and have fun riding, and keep telling her how much $ you are saving by riding the bike instead of driving the car/truck/suv. She can relate..... didn't she buy that expensive dress and matching shoes that she will only wear once or twice a year because they were on sale @ 30% off.
