RHill
I've noticed an intermittent noise coming from my front end. First thought was warped rotors or bad bearing. I tested the runout on both rotors and I'm well within the service range. One was +/-2.5 thousandths and the other was dead nuts on. The sound went away the moment the calipers were pulled, so its not the bearings.I think its more of an annoyance than anything else at this point. Havent felt any pulsing of be front brake or anything like that. I didnt check what type of pads were on the bike, maybe that is the culprit.Anyone deal with this before? RSparky
what kind of noise? squeaking, grinding, whirring?
Gixxus Christ!
High pitched squealing? Probably pads vibrating against rotors, pull them out, grease the backs of them and you should be good.
gixxie750
Clean the buckets and install new pads. Also use a light grit sand paper and remove old brake pad residue of rotors.
max power
Clean the pins that the pads ride on with sandpaper also, then apply a light coating of grease to them. If the pins get gritty/rusty the pads will not travel freely and will make noise.
RHill
The sound was a split second squeal on every rotation, only noticeable at really slow speeds while coasting or when spinning the wheel while on a stand. I'll pull the pads and clean everything up and see how it works out.
serpentracer
the glazing on the rotors is usually what causes it. the pad hits it and rubs the caliper and squeaks.
RHill
I already have the rotors off because I was switching rims over, so I'll pick up some fine grit sandpaper go over them.
RHill
Calipers were pretty clean so I scuffed up the rotors lightly with 600 grit(finest HD had) and the sound is gone as far as I can tell.
Howabusa
I'm getting the same sound out of my right side front rotor.
RSparky
if it doesn't need replaced, then do what he did...?
RHill
After a few more rides I can say the sounds gone. I cant tell you if it was changing the front wheel, going over the rotors with 600 grit, or just dumb luck. I'd lean toward going taking the glaze off the rotors with some 600+ grit sandpaper since its the easiest to do....hell you dont even need to take calipers off.
