Saw last nite that the vintage airplanes were gathering at Wyncoop Field in Mt. Vernon. Bi-planes. WACO aircraft built in 30's in Troy,Oh. So looks like this weekend. Take a kickstand pad...grassy field. Private sod airfield and public invited to view planes. Usually no charge, and a coupla food stands, but convenient to plastic food places up road in town. Off of SR661.

Signing off.

I've been to the WACO Troy field deal. Get there early enough for the pancake breakfast. Yum.

I think I'll go this year. It was fun. Small museum and gift shop there also.

did some work to a hanger at lunken a few years ago and they had this inside.

(forget what it's called but it was a trainer plane for new pilots they said) these engines sound incredible. fucking huge and scary looking.

North American Aviation T-28 Trojan - Air Force primary trainer.

Used for navigation training and basic combat maneuvering.

US Navy used them too, carrier qualified.

Used for combat by the South Vietnamese air force in Vietnam.

French air force had a bunch too.

Refurbished aircraft found a home in Brazil.

edit: also had the dubious honor of being the first combat aircraft type shot down in the Vietnam War in 1962.

Operated by 27 different air forces around the world.

edit deux: oops, this one is in US Navy colors, my bad.

Two more pics of it:

One of these at Mansfield Lahm....used to see it out when i was at sportie car events....always sounded like it wasn't hitting on all the cyl, but would fly.

When those big radials first start up they do miss a bit, until everything gets warmed up and the cylinder sleeves expand, then they run like a top!
