  3. Agreed that there are drawbacks and incentives to both. But the decision to enlist comes with the severing of a person from a great deal of the culture and the liberties that go along with that culture in order to preserve it. No other occupation comes close to requiring that. Civil law enforcement comes close at times, but not as frequent and with as inconsistent in its sources of risk as military life does. Compound that by an American society that has learned from its mistakes with how they treated the folks that came home from Viet Nam, the sights of their next door neighbor reservists and national guardsmen that come home in wheelchairs or not at all, and folks appreciate those sacrifices much more. I just have a problem with the generalization that being the military is simply an occupation, when very clearly it is not. Having a job in the military doesn't mean that being in the service itself is just a job. You leave behind a great deal of all the other aspects of life that even the most demanding civilian jobs do not impose upon. And to your point on unions, it simply went with the analogy. I am not nor have I been in a union of any sort since I got out. We are also paying on my wife's student loans from way back, and she doesn't even do for a living what she was educated for. Life just happens that way sometimes to us all. I will take you at your word that if called upon, be it drafted or "strongly influenced by current events by our government" that you would server without issue. But I will say with a great deal of confidence gained by experience that once your time was done, you would look back at your time spent as more than just career choice. HAHA! Given that I ended up working on jets for my time in, the Air Force had MUCH better facilities, had much newer equipment, and had better looking women to serve beside. Then again, if I ever wanted to hook up with an Air Force chick, all I needed to do was show up in my dress blues on any Air Force base. The flyboys never stood a chance.

  5. I served in peace time, so by most peoples figuring I am not a Vet or a Hero. Those are not the reasons I enlisted. I see the returning "Heros" expecting a huge ceremony and a parade. I see them puffing out there chests and shouting "I'm a war Vet!". I won't thank them for that. Nor will I thank the Ones that gladly excepted the $ 20,000 reenlistment bonus so they could sit in an airconditioned office and help spend trillions of our tax dollars on rebuilding the Hospitals and Orphanages we bombed last week. I did not benefit from the wars in the Middle East nor did my neighbors. Those that enlisted profited greatly. Thank George Bush. He's the one that asked for volunteers to kill and those that did are called Heros.

  7. I really don't see where getting paid factors in. You can get paid to be an IT guy in the military or as a civilian. Same goes for a plethora of other careers: mechanics, doctors, nurses, lawyers, ministers, etc. Though i cant speak for every career path, some of the professionals, medicine in particular, take a pay cut relative to going the civilian route. Joining for your own benefit doesn't have to be a negative either. We can't all live up to this early 20th century ideal of someone who leaves his cozy job to go fight on the front lines for his country. When I decided to go into medicine in the military, sure I got a lot of benefits from that, but I'll be damned if anyone thinks I don't view it as a great honor to take care of the people in this country who deserve, and many times need, care the most. It gives me a whole new sense of purpose and pride. So don't think less of yourself or others just because there's personal benefits involved. Bettering your own life and serving aren't mutually exclusive.

  10. Don't take it personal. It's a change in values of society in general. It's the population embracing the concepts of duty, honor, and citizenship. This is a good thing. On the other hand, if it comes from a military service member, it feels good. They know what they are talking about. It took 30 years after the Vietnam War, for a soldier in the Atlanta airport, to tell me "Thank You for your service". But honestly, anyone I knew in the military, didn't have to say anything at all. It's understood.

  12. My brother in law ForceFed is on here. I have owned a 97 z24, a 2003.5 mazdaspeed protege and most recently a 2004 Dodge neon SRT-4. I just bought my friends 1997 plymouth breeze this afternoon for a new daily driver. I never owned a rwd car, I want to get into one, make decent power and go from there. Looking to get into an ls1 do the usual h/c/i and throw some juice in the mix. My name is Chris Kaspar, I am 21 from kettering which is a suburb outside of dayton. I work two part time jobs and go to school. I have one ride, the breeze but I am wanting to buy either an f body or a fox. that is why I joined this forum. Kyle said there was some nice things for sale on here. pics of my previous cars.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/17363339@N02/7376202736/in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/17363339@N02/7376202032/in/photostream/

  14. Yeah I haven't heard great things about manuel either. Never been there myself so this isn't from personal experience, just things I've heard from a few people. If you're in NEO, definitely go to Pauly. He does great work and is very reasonable. As an aside, I didn't know Hammad did motorcycle tires but I've had tires put on multiple cars there and they've always done right by me.

  15. Another vote for DucRX. Took my bike there not too long ago for a rear tire replacement and he was quick with it. Also a cool guy to just chat with while he's working, as mentioned above.

  20. I know you guys are more sport bikes but I thought I'd throw it here also: Very nice Bike with 5000 miles....not 50000, no 15000, not..well you get it. It is a gorgeous red color with windshield, backrest, passenger floor boards. It has a set of slip on after market exhaust and I have the original. I replace the tires last year and they have about 1100 mile on them I have also purchased the "pair valve plates" to stop the back fire once it is warmed up(these will come with the bike) This this is a pleasure to ride anywhere. My wife and I have taken several long trips and she loves the ride. This is a very good year as the 02s has a grounding problem and the 04s had another problem but it escapes me at the moment. Also the bike comes standard with a hydraulic clutch, upside-down fork, cast aluminium wheels and a Dual Combined Brake Pressure Equalization System. The Brake system means that when pressing the back brake some of the pressure is channelled to the front brakes as well(not quite abs but nice) with a 5 gallon tank(asout 200mi before the fuel light comes on and a shaft drive. When we rode to WVA last year we gassed at point pleasant (the mothman ride) and did 80-85 all the way back without a hiccup. This is a mans bike at 700+ lbs but is fast and will hit a corner hard. If you look at reviews it will run mid12s for a quarter mile. Read the reviews for yourself. 22. I love the hipoint haters...fails under pressure...prove it with some research. I was talking to a gunsmith with 30yrs experience and we talked about hipoint First thing he said well not a good hand gun...but then he said you know I've been in business 30yrs and only repaired 1..worked on a lot of glocks. Now why wouldnt i carry a hp...all of they are BIG and HEAVY....you would have to reach for your ankles as your gun would have dropped that far. I had a 45 and my older boys has a 9 both shoot/shot well and hit the target a lot. So let some pussy asshole bad rep me again becasue they hate hipoint...yes some dick did it once before for that reason mace
