  2. I wish they had called the movement "Black Lives Matter, Too." Then there wouldn't be any of the "All Lives Matter" rebuttal nonsense, feigning stupidity as to what they meant. BLM is a good idea that's been poorly executed, and overtly exploited by violent assholes.

  3. FJ09...it has hard bags, trunk mount and most the comforts you have come to enjoy, just 300+ pound lighter, and that sweet triple 900 motor!

  7. Doc I think I now know why you can't sleep the night before a ride. You stay up all night researching every bike out there don't you.

  19. I can believe it happens often, but it surely shouldn't. It's simple stay in your lane. Don't ride above your level. Especially at Tail, you know it's dangerous and there will be traffic.

  20. If you have seen these scenarios so be it, I'll take your word for it. I have never seen it but have seen it go the other way, people have other issues such as financial trouble, they lost a job, their significant other left them or they have a drug problem and go to the games to get their mind off of it. When I am stressed out and just want to turn my mind off for awhile I go play some madden or GTA. I dont blame video games for people lacking the ability to cope with life or prioritize their life, I blame the people. If it wasn't games it would be something else and quite possibly be much worse. I don't see video games any different than tv, radio, podcasts, netflix, or hell, motorcycle riding. Everyone has a hobby, some people turn that hobby into a lifestyle which I blame the people for, not the hobby.

  23. How do you define a bad cop? I was just at a camp out of that was mostly cops. After many beers and a lot of whiskey the campfire stories were revealing. There were many stories of guns, cash, drugs, and jewelry that never quite made it to the evidence room. It was kind of a bragging session. They feel entitled to steal these things for themselves. Maybe all cops don't do it....but they are ALL aware of it and do nothing to stop it. I won't even get into to the the racist stuff.

  24. I'll do you one better: During the Dorner manhunt, the LAPD pumping 102 rounds into a blue truck occupied by two women that looked nothing like Dorner, inside a truck that looked nothing like the grey truck Dorner was driving. How they both survived is a mystery to me, but the 8(!) officers involved had no criminal charges brought, and it's unclear exactly what kind of punishment they received since they weren't even named. I understand that there are a ton of good cops out there, but when the stakes are this high that I have to be concerned about police with itchy trigger fingers that prefer to fire first and ask questions/make up the story later, I can't afford to automatically treat all police with the benefit of the doubt.

  25. Don't have to travel between hotels as a group. Fast people can lead themselves. Anyone wants to go solo for the day can do that too. No different than having a single sleeping point. I hauled 7 bikes plus myself for 3000 miles. Zero issues, other than @Connie14 pouring beer all over me. If the riders are similar riders its easy. If not they lead themselves.

  27. This I can get behind. They tried to take the crowdsource mentality of Occupy and apply it to a different movement. The problem is they took the part of Occupy that didn't work so well (leaderless, groupthink mentality) and tried to pin it to the only part of BLM that did work initially (the message that Black people were being disproportionately targeted/killed by police) until the former ate the latter. My pasty white guy take on this is simple: When you remove, or are perceived to have removed, all possible forms of legitimate accountability for people in positions of power, the only thing that the people are left with is vengeance. I think a viable solution can be found to make everyone push back from the edge a bit, however that solution involves the PD's doing something that they really don't like: admitting when they're wrong. There are so many layers of protections to hide behind; qualified immunity, Garrity, the Union, and even each other that to the general public it's almost impossible to determine where an investigation is at, or if they even started one in the first place.

  30. Its not going to change from within. If we dont intervene with massive resources it will only get worse. Let me give you am example. There is a girl at the school I work at. Her dad is doing 20 in the big house. Her mom just died from a heroin overdose. She is now being raised by her grandmother, who has a host of her own issues. Without outside intervention that girl has zero chance. And they dont idolize the thug life. Its the only life they know. Its the only life their parents know and its the only life their grandparents know. You tell them to work hard, they have no concept of what that means. Blame them, blame whoever you want. That wont change a thing. Only massive intervention will change it.

  31. Note the windowless "kidnapper" van. I have a feeling if someone had gotten in with her, we'd be found near a river somewhere. To be fair, Jim did help her troubleshoot the problem and located the guy with jumper cables.

  32. There is a shorter ferry near fort ticondaroga that is fun. If you get up by Lake Placid they put wheels on the bob sleds and you can ride the Olympic couse. That is pretty epic. In Bangor you can see Steven Kings house. Find a Captain Newicks restaurant in Maine or NH to eat at. All the great roads are in Vermont.

  34. So cops are like any other Union or government job. The ACLU obtained data also finds that African American and Latino neighborhoods also experience more violent crimes, resulting in more urgent emergency calls Likewise, nearly all of the predominantly minority districts had more Priority 1 calls per officer when compared to white neighborhoods, which largely explains the continuing disparity in response times. Beat officers in minority districts have approximately 1.5 times more Priority 1 calls than beat officers in white districts. When special unit officers are included, the disparity is still 1.4 times greater. For example, the minority district of Grand Crossing had 2.6 times more Priority 1 calls per beat officer in September (23.7 calls) than officers in the white district of Lincoln/Foster (9.1 calls). http://www.aclu-il.org/newly-released-data-shows-city-continues-to-deny-equitable-police-services-to-south-and-west-side-neighborhoods/ Until certain neighborhoods reduce their crime (10 calls per night in subsidized housing units) I don't know how they can suppress cops' survival instinct

  35. Oh one thing I wanna add . . . PLEASE NO WHEELIES!!! Keep that to a ZERO!!! (if your reading this) You 2 guys in May, kept doing it and it was annoying, putting other riders in danger (if you wipe you wanna get RAN over?), creating separation between the group, etc. Just dont do it during these big Group rides. Do that shit when your riding by YOURSELF!

  36. Since you are still a bit new around here let me help you out. Go Friday, it hardly ever rains on my rides. We call it the dome of hate. Take our ride Saturday for example. @jschaf left the same time I did, from very close by. He got soaked. I didn't.
