I'm writing this from the hospital. Don't worry! The doctors say I'm going to be OK but I must warn you. The Dyson Ball Cleaner has a very misleading name......2 points

You can't out-engineer stupid behavior. Had an Indian girl with another passenger try to reverse her minivan back into a roundabout infront of me this afternoon.1 point

Just to report back in case someone else is curious or have similar problems. Additional information. I've tried my previous set up on two different bikes with similar lackluster charging. So I'm sure it is not battery or bike related. On my Galaxy Note 5 I'm sure the GPS and streaming of music with screen always on was just too much. USB connector was a dual port 2.1 Amp pigtailed off my Batter Tender SAE connection that is connected directly to the battery. As suggested I looked for a 3.1 Amp USB and went ahead and found a new micro USB cable that is a . Here are the items I purchased: https://www.amazon.com/Motopower-0609A-Waterproof-Motorcycle-Charger/dp/B01DYE54LI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493406044&sr=8-2&keywords=3.1+amp+SAE https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerLine-Premium-Motorola-Smartphones/dp/B019PZPYK6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1493406067&sr=8-3&keywords=anker+cable+micro+usb+1+ft I would rather have kept my Battery Tender connector on the battery, but the short USB connector cable limited this. Turned on my GPS and Music with battery level at 80%. 100% in about 20 minutes. Only complaint is that neither item has a rubber cover to protect the SAE connection points from the weather. Appreciate the comments from everyone. Hope this helps others.1 point

IF I can locate it, I've got a Haynes manual for the ST1050 if you'd like it. Not doing me any good.1 point

The jump of quality between 7 speed freewheels to 8 speed freehubs is quite large. 8 speed puts the bearings outboard and is the same up to 11 speeds.I just learned there are 7 speed cassettes but they aren't common If some fool wants to drive down, I have raleigh c40 apartment move out dumpster bike for loan. it does need a 27.9 seatpost if you're over 5'8".24spd grip shift. It's aluminum framed probably lighter than your average rental bike. 16" frame 40.5" wheelbase 170 mm cranks1 point

Jan: Couple of questions and a suggestion: 1) Do you want me to put the soft luggage panniers on for your trip? 2) Do you need to borrow a helmet and or MC jacket? I have an extra that is actually very clean, but fit may be an issue. 3) Keep me in the loop as to timing. The earlier you can provide me with your schedule, the better. I'm assuming you'll be here Sat morning but the weather looks better for Friday evening than Sat AM. I have a scheduling conflict and may not be home later Sat after 3 PM. 4) If you are not crunched for time when you pick up the bike, you will be within 20 minutes of some of the finest roads within 100-150+ miles of Cincinnati-Columbus. I'd be happy to show some of the great rural routes in northern Kentucky--right across the river--where I do most of my riding. If you get here early enough, I can plan a 100-150 mile (2.5-4 hr) route to show you around the countryside just south of my house. If your schedule permits it, it's worth your time! Again, lemeno.1 point

I'm bringing some tire change friendly equipment as well so whatever you may not have, I likely will Stecoah Diner. Good stuff, and VERY fair prices. Their breakfasts are great as well. Wife and I's maiden voyage to the Gap a few years ago was at IronHorse Inn. They've got good chow there too ( the grilled salmon was stellar! ) only downfall is you have to get on the guest list in advance so they know how many they're feeding.1 point

I find myself in the Czech Republic at least once a year and my family name means "silver" in Czech. I would loan the guy a bike if I had an extra that wasn't currently torn apart. The more I travel the world, the more I find myself trusting people. A few years ago I started asking around the FJR forums about renting a bike in Sydney. In a very short amount of time I was connected with an Aussie named Phil who, after some texts and a little FaceTime, offered to let me use his own FJR for a couple days. I was floored by the generosity from a (mostly) complete stranger. I ended up renting a VFR because a stock FJR is just a bit too tall for me to handle comfortable, especially while trying to get used to being on the wrong side of the road. Phil, his buddy Pat and I rode an entire day together in the Blue Mountains, then we ate dinner with Phil's family and they let me crash for the night in a spare bedroom. Awesome people! We still talk regularly and hoping that I get a chance to repay him in my home country. It's easy to be suspicious, you should be, but in the end, the things I did in life will far outweigh the stuff I had.1 point

Meh, I'm old and crotchety. If he kills me and steals my Strom, I prolly deserve it and it's more likely karma coming back to bite me in the ass! Figger it this way: he's a Czech IT expert on an international assignment--if we don't accommodate him, he'll hack the OR website, steal all our identities and sell them to the Russian mob. ;<)1 point

You may pick the bike up any time Sat 29Apr2017 and return it Mon 01May2017 in the evening. Let me know if you want the pannier luggage and I'll put it on before you pick up the bike. The bike is available for you at your convenience if you return from Akron earlier than expected--I'm retired and home pretty much everyday. Weather doesn't look promising for those days, so I hope you have good rain gear!!! I presume you plan on leaving your rental car here for the time you have the bike? Or will you find a ride down and back? No problem either way; I have secure off-street parking to leave the car if that's your plan. You can phone me at 1-513-598-8992 (landline, no text) or TEXT ONLY PLS to 1-513-560-1942. Address is 3910 Powner Road, Cincinnati OH 45248.1 point

Jan: I'll make you an offer that might be better/cheaper than what your you've proposed. I'll lend you my '09 Suzuki DL650 (VStrom, non-ABS) for the time frame you've described. I have two bikes, and I can't ride them both at the same time. Here's the conditions: 1) I'm located in Cincinnati (SW Ohio) which is about 1.5-2 hours from Westerville--you gotta figure out a way to pick up and drop off the bike at my house; 2) I won't ask for any rent money from you--you are borrowing the bike gratis--but we will sign a contract saying that you will be responsible for any damage/loss/theft/speeding citations during the time you are in possession of the bike, and I will require a cash deposit of $500 to be refunded to you when you return the bike in satisfactory condition. Be aware that the drivers in the US are probably an order of magnitude worse in terms of driving skills, attention to the road and other drivers--ESPECIALLY MOTORCYCLES--thatn what you are used to in Europe. Fair warning to be aware and supremely cautious when in the saddle. Bike is in excellent condition, with nearly new tires, newer chain and sprockets, recent brake refresh including fluids, oil/filter change. Bike is equipped with touring windscreen, tank bag, and you can borrow my soft pannier luggage if you need to carry your gear. All I ask is that you check the oil after a long high-speed highway trip, as the Stroms are known to drink a little oil at 65-70+ MPH, and keep the chain lubed as needed. Lemeno. Bill Francis1 point
