hey folks i'm curious. what kind of place is this? i'm ancient, i guess, been on bikes 45 years. first bike was a 1962 triumph trophy that i rode through the monsoons back when when tungku abdul rahman was a new name in kuala lumpur. still mostly old british stuff, though my newest machine is a 1997 buell. never seems to break anything, unlike my 74 trident that threw a rod day before yesterday on I-70. never done any road racing, but i am currently developing a 1965 triumph bonneville LSR at the east coast timing association mile when i can, and at the loring timing association when i can't. took it to loring last month. did very well there, but not good enough to be first. back to the dyno in a month or two. i don't always have a lot to say, but i'll be lurking. ciao1 point

Different tracks use different flags and sometimes with different meanings. Mid O doesn't use the meatball. The black flag displayed at start finish means come around and see the track Marshall. Black flag from a corner worker pointed at you means get off the track as quickly and safely as possible.1 point

I'll admit the first time I ever touched a bike was in the MSF class. Completed it and was still nervous as hell. Drove to Chicago, picked up a SV650S. Didn't have the skills to properly ride it so waited until the wee hours of the night and rode in the Metroparks for a few weeks until I got the nerve to go in real traffic. Just dumb luck I didn't kill myself before gaining enough basic skills to control the thing.1 point

No wait, so the Russians are working for the white white supremacists and the Lee statue was made of N Korean uranium. Damn it's hard to keep up with CNN.1 point

It's definitely a hobby of mine, which I enjoy a lot, but she knows the frustrations of always shooting others but rarely getting my own photos so she has taken it upon herself to learn more about how to use the camera. There were lots of shots that she messed up because she forgot to move up the shutter speed and/or ISO (if needed) to give a bit more sharpness but I appreciate the fact that she will at least do what she can because she knows I enjoy it so much. ( I should have taken out of manual mode and put it into shutter speed priority)1 point

It was great to see you yesterday John! Good job to everyone participating yesterday - and to those that bumped up. I had fun just hanging out with everyone. Good times.1 point

Nice, I kept asking if they had got you the sticker and Mark said he had Rob take it to you. You look good out there just stay away from the curbing, it's slick.1 point

No passing, proceed to pit lane at a reasonable speed. Maintain lines unless you have to alter them for liquids/debris. If they are pointing the (black) flag at you specifically, get off the track ASAP because you are probably spilling all kinds of crap all over the place.1 point

Derek, that was a good save, considering the speed it wasn't that bad. Great seeing everyone yesterday.1 point

A guy in the UK had this exact same failure happen to him and it caused some pretty serious damage to his engine. K&N ended up paying for the repairs but he had to pester them for a while. If there is damage, hound them about it. Dig up purchase records, keep all evidence, etc. They HAVE been paying out and they have known about this problem for years.1 point

They most certainly did, I just think @Tonik wanted another hot lap.1 point

Guess I should update this. Tried to slab home but I couldn't take it and broke off from the pack in Kentucky. No route in mind just got lost for a few hours then flipped on the gps and headed back home. Turned out to be a pretty nice ride. I replaced all my exhaust studs and got everything bolted back up so bike is fixed. For me this made three trips to the gap on three different bikes in the past year and I can't wait to go back next year.1 point

A little Chicago humor. Apparently the Chicago media doesn't like Chicago politics too much. Ran an article stating that if we get rid of evil historical stuff, the Democratic Party has to go. Being the historical party of all that nasty stuff. While we're toppling offensive symbols, what about the Democratic Party? - Chicago Tribune1 point

"I hope everyone understands that if Hillary had been elected there would not be a problem with the monuments as there was no problem for eight years of Obama and a hundred previous years under several other Presidents. Because it is not about the monuments or slavery,it is a provocation plain and simple. It is about we did not get our 'president' so we could continue the status quo and continue with the bloodying of America." -1 point

The argument that the confederacy was fighting for state's rights is utter and complete nonsense. The confederacy was fighting for state's rights... TO OWN SLAVES. It's right in the confederacy's constitution that all confederate states will allow the ownership of slaves. Now...removing confederate statues because we are so easily offended that we can't view a monument in historical context without getting a sad...these people need to get a grip. Removing evidence of the past doesn't negate the past. Changing and acting differently DOES.1 point

The value on OR compared to social media is like the difference between an encyclopedia and a happy meal box... Facebook being the fast food reading... I think that definitely has something to do with the lack of anononymity here. We all know each other, and so we moderate our opinions like reasonable adults should. Social media, and thus our entire culture, has become a mosh pit of half-baked, least common denominator, childish, I-can-type-louder-than-you ideas. And that one very powerful, very polarizing element is taking civilization down a path of destruction. The world has never seen the the power of this form of communication. It has (maybe past tense 'had' is more appropriate) the potential to be a global force for good and positive change. But social media has devolved into a cesspool of failed ideologies, hate, misinformation, lies, fools, and propaganda. And I don't think anyone knows how to fix it. Ive come to a point where I no longer attempt to make rational arguments for my Conservative/ Libertarian beliefs. It's pointless. Nobody cares and nobody listens, and I'm not changing any minds. So now, my entire purpose for my freedom of speech is to ask people from all sides to stop allowing themselves to be polarized and defend their personal bias, and to try to empathize with those you disagree with, and spend your time trying to find common ground. If we continue to stand and fight from our bias we will never find a solution to the division in our society. I'll never concede that more government is an answer to our problems. That's a principle I believe to my core. But I don't have to argue that point every time you ask me to concede that gays, blacks, and minorities deserve equal rights and haven't had them. Just like you can concede that maybe it's a good idea to at least monitor who comes in and out of the country. I can concede that not all Muslims are terrorists and in fact most aren't. Just like you can call Black Lives Matter members chanting "Murder Cops" in the streets just as repugnant as Nazis. But nobody right now will concede a damn thing! Everyone thinks they're so damn correct. Independent intellectual analysis is far more difficult than reiterating what BuzzFeed and CNN and Breitbart told you. And until everyone can concede SOMETHING we are going to kill each other. And it makes me terribly sad, because America as an idea, as an ideal, as a philosophy is better than this.1 point

This. I'll add if the DNC wouldn't have made a mockery of their own process by gifting the nomination to hilldog, Trump probably wouldn't be the president.1 point
