I'm pretty sure most people trailer down. I think there was maybe 8 people who rode down last year? I might be off here... If I don't get a nicer seat, I'm looking for a trailer spot. I like the ride, but think I'll take a more relaxing route this time.

I don't speed... except for last week when I got a speeding ticket, but that's the ONLY time. I can't imagine going that fast on a road that is not a track. My reflexes kind of suck though, so maybe its just me.

You're asking why it takes less force to move 5 objects compared to 1000 objects? ... think about what you're asking here. I know you're super certain that surface area has something to do with it, but I can promise you that smarter people than us have spent hundreds of years figuring out that it doesn't. Before I spend any more time trying to convince you of this - Please google Amonton's 2nd law - then if you are as smart as you think you are, you'll be able to read a page or two and figure this all out for yourself.

Right. When I said to draw the FBD I intended for you (magz) to see that it's still independent of area. If you have the phone book interlaced with half width of the pages, or a quarter, it should still require the same force to separate. *edit* In theory. In practice, the weight distribution of the phone book will change the separation force, but it still has nothing to do with surface area.
