My first bike had been laid down at low speeds. I had to put a few new parts into it to make it operable - buuut I bought it from someone I knew, so I knew that it still was in good working condition. As far as gear, I got all my gear on clearance. Jacket, helmet, gloves, for less than $200... I did that bc I didn't want to dish out a ton of money, then find out that I sucked at riding (shutup jrm ) but now I'm looking for new helmet and gloves, so maybe I shoulda bought quality in the first place... ?

yeeaaah, I bought a shitty 87 kawi ex500 for $800ish. I'm pretty happy with how that went. I dropped it a few times, didn't do much damage bc the bike was already not pretty, but when I felt more confident got a better bike. If you can find a decent crappy bike to learn on, you could probably sell it without too much of a loss when you're ready to buy your nice bike....

snowmobiles are scary... I was riding ~55-60mph MAX and I thought I was gonna die. It looks like your little guy will be a lot of fun though
