Yeah, bouncing off my rev limiter was not great. I actually need to change up my gearing for that track to keep my RPM’s in a better spot. On turn 1, I tried not downshifting in practice but my bike lacked the power to get me to the speed I wanted to exit. I appreciate the advice on the shift points. I studied every race video of that track that I could find and was still not able to pin all the shift points down.

Need to carry more speed through t1 then. Nelsons is fast, but knowing there's like zero run off prevents people from going faster. Myself included.

I see what you mean now about two downshifts into 12. I tried that in practice and was finding it difficult to get down 2 gears and change body position in that amount of time. I also was a second slower on my laps so I was not hitting such high revs. Once I was racing, my pace was much faster and that downshift before the kink should not have happened. Practice will make me quicker on those shifts.

This means you need to move your body over to the left as soon as you finish the kink. You should not be moving your body by the time you go to the brakes - that should already be done.

We ride triumphs, not r6's- we have a completely different power band.

I will say I was going to experiment going into 5th right before the high-speed kink I just never got back to Nelsons to try it.

Here's a vid of me following my buddy Nick at a track day this year. I wasnt riding at pace but my gear selection is still the same.

7:17 is a good example of how to signal for pit out without rolling off btw.

Well, if you all feel like watching me crash, here is another one from Nelson Ledges earlier this year. I was jockeying for 2nd I think and came upon an “expert” who I assumed would accelerate out of the turn and hold his line when he did not. It looks like I could have gotten back on the track but it rained heavy so I was riding through deep puddles in the grass. I was hoping I could ride it out but quickly realized that wasn’t happening when I locked up my brakes and didn’t slow down at all. I got a little off line on some of the laps but this was my first weekend at Nelson and was just creeping into 1:11’s.

Bro you downshifting before the high-speed kink makes me and your valves cringe. Just roll through there. Catch 2 downshifts into 12, catch 1 more in between 12 and 13 which should put you in 3rd gear onto the front straight. Also dont downshift into t1. You are killing so much roll speed by doing that.

Here is the video. Sorry it’s a butt shot. I was noticing I was dropping my butt when leaning and wanted to get a video to see how bad it was to correct it.  I am a little off line here which could be why I didn’t slip on any of my other laps.

That's weird, its like you hit a bump in the track. Didn't seem like you were carrying excessive lean angle, or applying excessive throttle. Your head could come further inside and down but I don't think that's why this happened.

    Why pull the wheels?

To prevent any possible issues with the slicks cracking. Plus gotta remove em anyway to pull the forks and shock.

My guess is it's more about the tires than the wheels.

    Winner winner!

  5. No pics but ripped the bodywork off the bike. Cleaned it. Changed the oil and swapped water back to anti-freeze for the winter. Might flush the brakes in the next coming days. Need to pull the forks and shocks to get them refreshed. Then pull the wheels and bring them inside.

    I hate winter.

I do and it was working. I will post it. You will notice in the crash that I start to roll on throttle about the same time I go down. That doesn’t feel like the issue but it could have contributed. I am pretty light on the throttle through there and was in 3rd gear so not a ton of torque at that spot given my rpm and speed.

I mean even on it's best days, that track surface is less than desirable. Post the vid, we'll see if we can get anything from it.

It was a beautiful day to be on the track and there was not very many people. Unfortunately, 4 people from various groups went down at the same location on turn 9 throughout the day, I was the one in advanced that went down. I left after that but in the ambulance ride, you could hear them talking on the radio asking if anyone saw any reason why everyone was going down. Not sure if they got it figured out after I left. Felt like oil or antifreeze because there was no warning , I just initiated the turn, not even getting my knee down, and in a flash my front end was down and I was sliding. Not hurt and bike is fine.

Do you roll a camera while you ride? Could try and dissect it.

Yeah my buddy had a nice little low side into 4 at the end of the day in Novice. I got stood up twice in corner entry by the same guy but it looked like Chris pulled him off and gave him an ear full.

We wanted to do Road Atlanta and CMP but work has other plans. Hopefully next year.

Was it a guy on an r1 and a Tachi suit?

Anybody know if the guy on the Harley at PITT on Sunday is alright?

I was wondering exactly the same thing this morning.

    Maybe @TimTheAzn has the scoop?

Was he the only person transported?  I though I heard that two people were hurt but they could have just been talking about two separate bikes down....I couldn't tell.

Yea he's already making fun of himself on Facebook.

He may have been the only one transported. Hard to keep track as Sunday was one of those nice days after a rainy day on Saturday and everyone tried to send it throughout the day which unfortunately brought out a lot of red flags. I didn't coach this weekend, Oct PIRC weekend I usually just ride for myself. I got what I wanted to accomplish accomplished on Sunday.

Great topic......I find the same issue while in a more sporting lean.

I have a Shoei RF1100...Not a major pain, but annoying. Wondering if to get a different helmet more suited for backroad follies..  And what would that be?

Unless you have an improperly fitting helmet - vision shouldn't be a real issue riding the mean skreets imo. My RF1200 was fine for me until I started riding aggressively on-track and was cranked over trying to look up-hill looking for my next reference point.

Nice to meet you briefly Sunday while we were waiting to go out in track for the last session of novice.

Hey man it was nice to meet you. Are you going to be at pitt in oct? I'm not coaching that weekend but will throw a shirt on to help you for a session if youre there. lmk. I'm sorry we didnt get to link up this past weekend. I hope you had fun.

  12. Helmets are a subjective topic. But typically the more race-oriented helmets have more vision (side to side and vertical).

First thing to do is to ensure your helmet fits correctly.

I ran into that issue when I switched back to one of my RF1200's at the track after getting used to my corsair x's. I would be leaned over in a corner trying to look forward and I would be staring at the brow of my helmet (in the RF1200). Or coming up out of t5 at PIRC (leaned over looking up hill).

your belly pan looks scared for its life. front end need to be raised or is that just the way those fairings sit?

I'm still applying a fair amount of brakes here, the forks are still compressed a good bit. Trail braking ftw.
