    Say what now

A common issue on the triumph daytona's is the charging harness melting at the connectors because of the increased resistance of those shitty quick disconnects. I've had the hardware fail before on my other 675 but it never caught fire.

This time I came in from coaching the first session of novice on sunday morning and was talking to a student and catch what looked like smoke out of the corner of my eye. I look down and there are flames coming out from under my bodywork. I put it on the kickstand (thank god this bike has one) and started trying to rip my helmet off while in my mind I was already prepared to watch my bike burn to the ground. Got the fire stopped without huge damage.

Ordered a fancy new sprocket from Europe for the Galespeed wheel on my Bandit.  It'll take them 3 weeks to make it and shipping is estimated at 35 days so maybe I'll get it by 4th of July?image.png.cbcc87e60585c63b651b20d0bc82f8ff.png

With that wait time I woulda ordered 2 lol.

I'm the complete novice package with terrible body position and chronic difficulty staying on the race line.  I've been to about 15 track days over the last 3 years, all at mid-ohio until last weekend at PittRace.  I feel like I intellectually know where I should be and what I should be doing, but I find myself off the line, missing the apex, turning in late, etc.  I definitely  improve each time I go.  I'm much less tense than I used to be, I look much further down the track than I used to.....so I don't feel stalled-out by any means but/and I'm acutely aware of many of things I don't execute correctly.

I read the summary you linked and it sounds like I might be a candidate.  Thanks for the feedback on that....I may check one out later in the year.

    Thanks!

Sounds good man! We'd love to have you out again!

Yes, I created it on my phone so maybe I need to check an actual computer. It says it is full and gave me an option to get on a wait list.

Hmm, you sure you had the correct date selected? You can PM my your N2 account ID and I can look to see maybe why that happened.

Has anyone been through the N2 Advanced Training Program and have any thoughts about it?  Did you go from there to more training?  Notice your riding improve as a result of the program?

What is your level of track riding experience? It's a good program. You have classroom sessions in between on-track sessions where you work with a coach dedicated to the ATP class (low student to instruction ratio) go over video, etc.

It runs as an add-on to the track day. So you'll have to purchase the track day as well as ATP. Lmk if you have any other questions.

Just tried to sign up with N2 for the Nelson Ledges track day on 6/4 and it’s already full. That must be a popular place. I guess I am used to my local track never filling up (Mid-O).

It's not full - not even close. It will be full since it's a Friday before a endurance race weekend.  Did you create an account to give yourself access to the online portal?

I'm guessing that N2 rents the track, and much like the groups that rent mid ohio, they run regardless of how many people show up. That's a lot more appealing than the mid ohio school that can and will cancel an event the day before. 6/4 isn't even a weekend day!

Yes we had lower than average numbers last weekend at PIRC (totally a cheap place to rent :) ) and still ran the day. Unlike Mid-Ohio.

PITT Race did not disappoint. Top notch facility and track.

Tim it was good meeting you in person.

Nice to meet you as well. Glad you had a good time, look forward to seeing you out there in the future.

I'm going to Pittrace this Saturday for my first time.  Do they have concessions on site or do I need to bring all my food in that day?

Yup, its a bbq place local to Pitt Race thats actually pretty darn good. They have a permanent concessions trailer out in the paddock. They serve breakfast and lunch. Usually gone at dinner time though. There is a sandwitch shop down the road less than 5 min called Al's Corner. Nice little spot with some sammiches and hot food. There other options slightly further away.

    See you there.

So if Mid Ohio's surface sucks what are some better tracks for a first time track rider? I've been looking at Putnam Park Gingerman, and Grattan. I have no issues with tech requirements. Thanks.

Not grattan. Go to Nelsons or Pitt Race. Nelsons is easier to learn/ride. Both have good pavement.

before covid, we could put up an autox announcement at CRP and have 70 cars there if the weather wasn't terrible. If we told em "gotta swap coolant, drill this and that, etc" I'd expect maybe 5 cars to show up, if that.

People are lazy. They might be getting lazier? I've already seen 2 tracks and a pile of parking lots get shut down, we're kinda running out of venues here...

Are any of the indoor karting places in columbus doing mini-moto? I've seen that one in cincy does events

Now you're mixing cars with bikes. Just stop there -this is about bikes.

Working on bikes is 1000x easier in my experience than working on cars.

I havent heard of any of the indoor carting places anywhere near the state of ohio allowing minis to ride on the track. The liability of that is high and the insurance would be outrageous I'd imagine.

  11. Where do you draw the line though? Intermediate riders are in the thunder dome. Riding with people fresh out of novice and people on the cusp of advanced group. It's arguably the riskiest group to ride in. Some simple additional requirements is a no-brainer.

Literally all of the options are easy, drill yourself, buy a pre-drilled bolt, or silicone. How long does it honestly take someone to put a glob of silicone on a bolt?

If someone isn't willing to do some simple things, what's that say about their other maintenance habits? I don't want those kind of lazy people riding on track tbh.

When they started requiring intermediate to safety wire they crossed the line into "really guys?"

Loads of videos at other tracks of people with mirrors that aren't even taped up!, no safety wired anything, stock coolant,  and somehow the world doesn't end.

I'm sure they wouldn't have upped the requirements if they didn't have a problem at some point, but if other tracks are doing it why can't they?

Really? Basic safety wiring isnt hard. Are you blaming something like requiring some basic safety wire the cause of Mid Ohio becoming no longer relevant as a motorcycling track? Thats absurd. It's the pavement there that's caused motorcycles to fall out there.

It really sounds like someone hasnt had to scrub a track to clean of oil or coolant in the middle of a track day in the summer heat still wearing their 1pc leathers while loosing track time in the process.... and it shows.
