  1. Nature vs Nurture Should nurture change nature? Sometimes. Who gets to decide? Parents. Do they always make the right decisions? Nope.
  2. wheeee! it's been on all day showing last year's series Then the new show a good way to spend a Sunday
  3. I was a member for a lot of years. But when the show left Columbus, it wasn't near as much fun. Maybe someday I'll get back in, but I was paying dues and not going.
  4. 2mm over is 635cc-636cc. 1000cc is impossible without an engine swap. I think it's a Mexican Beaver overbore kit. (Scroll down to 1000cc fuel injected Beaver SP1.) Mexican Beaver (goes straight to product page)
  5. I was watching the race. It was a bad wreck.
  6. I was watching the race. It was a bad wreck.
  7. Doesn't everyone have the metal detector app loaded on the phone? Not that it would work very well in a metal dumpster... I've used it in the lawn a couple of times to find dropped stuff. But at least I knew I dropped something and roughly where.
  8. The guys at work tell me Edison on Joyce or Ace on Groveport have decent prices for scrap. I'm sort of the opinion that they all are bogus to deal with. I'm about to scrap two cars, the scrap value is high. Maybe three if the old Jeep won't start. I might just go with where ever the tow driver thinks is best. edit: I was told to call and get a quote based on year and model of vehicle. Guess I'll call and see who's highest in scrap price.
  9. Made me go out and look at mine. Roadsmart on rear of both 919. Not many miles on them, but one shows a tiny amount of wear, and the other shows nothing. The one with the greater miles on the tire is the one that shows nothing. I'm guessing the 17T front sprocket on that one doesn't let me slam torque on the rear tire like the 16T front sprocket of the other one does. And a different riding style. Therefore, mileage of the tire will vary according to the way it's rode. Ride hard and it will wear faster. Duh me. I do expect the Roadsmart on both to not wear out so fast down the middle, like the old Qualifier did. Maybe get two years out of each, but not really counting on it. I could wear out a Qualifier in just part of a season if I goofed around and abused it. edit: oh, and if you look up the RoadSmart front tire specs, it is an ordinary tire without multiple compounds. It is an ordinary tire of slightly different compound from the older qualifier, to match the rear RoadSmart. I'm running the old qualifier on the front with the RoadSmart in the rear, till the front wears out. Slight difference, but close enough for now.
  10. That's worth repeating. Yes, it's what I think of when people ask for social justice and re-distribution of wealth. Also makes me think of this: History lesson: In the British occupation of India, any and all individuals of merit and skill were given scholarship to British Universities. Part of the purpose of that was to indoctrinate and subjugate those individuals, and prevent them from leading a revolution in the future. Didn't work too well in the long run.
  11. I see what JRMiii is saying with the two images of writ. And I can easily see both viewpoints and agree with both. But how do I say this. It's complicated, as it should be, life is not easy. For some one to succeed, some one must fail. All cannot succeed. For each person that works their way up in life, one will work their way down. Taoism? Yeah, sure. Yin and Yang. I picture previous generations, that worked a life time, not so much for themselves, but for their children to have a better life. Not picture perfect success, just something better than what they had in their generation. We aren't there anymore. We have ideas that success can be short circuited and be given immediately. It isn't true. Nothing about it is true. It's Work, luck, opportunity, and generosity. Education also, but not necessarily. And given our current social/economical situation, in addition to the not so rosy vision of the future... We all need to take a step back, and reassess our goals and where we want to be in the future. It's a period of time of change. Didn't want it, but it's here. And it's likely to be permanent. Choose wisely.
  12. Actually, the voter turnout in the USA is just about the worst in the entire world. If the 99% actually voted, something might actually happen. If the 99% actually had a consensus of opinion. Voting in the USA generally results in a 50%-50% opinion split on everything. imho that indicates people are simply guessing, ergo a 50/50 split on voting. That's a story for another time.
  13. Might consider universal fit MotivationUSA barends. No idea what size fits what you now have. It looks like easy to add bar end mirrors also. http://www.motovationusa.com/mvstore/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=304 I bought a stock fit pair for my bike, but no clue if they are any better than another brand. edit: or... genuine elcheapo Pro-Tek universal barends from Amazon: Also no idea what size fits what you now have. http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Tek-Universal-Bar-Ends-Red/dp/B003G0R9NM
  14. Yes, but... the shear volume of the demand took everyone by surprise. Everyone was making money off the creation of these crappy (for the consumer) loans. Including the US Government, which was getting it's cut. Plans were made and carried out, to increase the volume. Shear greed. Some saw the future problem, but money speaks louder. Neither party is blameless. One may have initially set the stage, but both let it go on.
  15. no no, I've learned by crossing in cross walks downtown that cars drive faster in the rain through college school zones, and are less likely to stop for cross walks and pedestrians. I'd expect no less than stupid moves in the rain.
  16. I had one car and one pickup truck turn left in front of me on the way to work this morning. The truck gunned it to get out of the way, but the car about a mile previous was a lot closer. Close enough that I couldn't goof around by gunning the engine like I normally would. About 25 feet in front of me, but I had the brakes on long before that. The wet road didn't allow for anything other than starting an evasive move around the back side of the car. Didn't need it, the getting on the brakes early let the car pass in front of me. But it wasn't comfortable being that close in front of me. Stupid wet/dark/Friday/morning/cars... edit: yeah, and stupid half blind drivers with no depth perception...
  17. Seems to me that lightning strikes behind a storm or between two storms more often than anywhere else. I'm going to take a rough guess that deer strikes occur near road signs that warn of deer crossings. Maybe we need a map of where all those deer crossing signs are posted.
  18. Ohio transportation publishes a nice internet county by county map of motorcycle and car crashes, but I don't remember if it clearly indicates which ones were the deer strikes. I'll try to find it again, it's near impossible to locate on the internet. edit: this is one of the links, there's another somewhere. The word deer does not appear anywhere. http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/departments/nrd-30/ncsa/STSI/39_OH/2008/39_OH_2008.htm Here's one I've not seen before. A crash report generator: https://ext.dps.state.oh.us/crashreports/crashreports.aspx ok, try this. search www.dot.state.oh.us for the word deer. I found this 2009 map, hot spots in each district, and down at the bottom the exact location. (opens pdf) There is also a hot spot map for Eastern counties, but it requires a user/password to open. No got that...
  19. Yeah, no clue. Only heard of it in Traditional Catholicism when entering a church that has the sacraments. Same for Islamic culture when entering a mosque. edit: There is some sort of practice in South Africa that requires that. Any building. sangoma = healer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sangoma
