  1. Although there are waterproof boxes for iPods; http://www.h2oaudio.com/ I think I'd just get a dedicated swim mp3 player; http://www.swimoutlet.com/Waterproof_MP3_Players_s/363.htm (obviously pick it and research the cheapest price on line)
  2. Didn't most of us learn how to control that back in our teens? (assuming these were older drivers)
  3. Maybe the perfect Christmas gift for Winter comfy... I was kinda hoping they had real wheels and little motors... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3o3gMVebng
  4. wut? I didn't know radio hosts were supposed to be funny. I just thought they were all assholes...
  5. made me look... she spelled it trickle... I copied it wrong, heheh I'll tell her to drop the price and drop the extras, if she wants to sell it.
  6. she said $2000 negotiable I think all the "other stuff" holds some value in her regard. I see KBB retail - $1525 and KBB trade-in - $985 I figure private party average of the two - $1255 negotiable
  7. I like tail wheel aircraft. Yes, slow speed landing. They float along. Not much fun landing in a cross wind sometimes.
  8. I remember 22cal kits for converting/switching a colt or clone 45acp 1911. Don't know how well they work, I've not know anyone to try one.
  9. There is a lot of unused existing oil wells in Ohio. Capped off and sitting idle. The production rate didn't justify the use and collection. That has changed for some, and they are being restarted. Nothing wrong with little oil wells that I can see, they are all over Los Angeles. You see them behind trees and shrubs in mall parking lots. Some deeds come with mineral rights, but I bet that most do not. Still might have to get or buy permission from the land owner anyway. Tricky question. Chances are that if they want it, they will get it anyway.
  10. She left after her class and I missed contact. I'll email for price and pic. But I caught this from a post on bulletin board in her building: 2007 Yamaha Vino 125cc scooter automatic transmission blue: royal/electric 120mpg good condition, well maintained 1500 mi windshield basket helmet motorcycle jacket caliper lock: alarmed trinkle charger owners manual and she didn't list a price...
  11. I'll ask price and model in a bit. She's teaching class.
  12. Girl at work wants to sell her 2007 Yamaha scooter. 125cc. (That model where the helmet fits under the seat.) I looked at it when she bought it used, low miles and super clean. Anyone interested? I'm working, I won't be able to respond right away.
  13. Yup, still have to register when 18 or go to jail. (More likely be denied state and federal freebies.) Some schools and jobs won't take men who don't register.
  14. If current veterans are serving 5 to 12 deployments, compare that to essentially a maximum one year tour in Vietnam. Factor that into new numbers, and current veterans would be somewhere between 2% and 6%. And yet it is not, the burden is simply 5 to 12 times higher for the current generation in uniform. WW2 had little options, you served till you died, or were wounded too badly to continue fighting.
  15. In part it's pride. The lack of. People are not proud. I picked it up from this. A book about the Depression Era, when a wealthy family in a small town in Ohio gave away money (aid) to local families that needed help. They did so with an advertisement in the local newspaper. The book is all about those people and the responses to the advertisements, to seek help... One quote in the book review sticks with me: "...social attitudes characteristic of the Depression generation—pride in self-reliance matched by mortification to be seen accepting help, overlain with disdain for complaining." So what happened to these attitudes? It seems to me they took a turn somewhere and aren't around anywhere this century... Military veterans need not worry about this. Pride is something the military hands out freely. edit: oops, forgot to name that book: A Secret Gift - Ted Gup.
  16. Here ya go, lead bag for film when traveling. Take it to the mall, and pop your phone in and out of the bag... Hey, that guy just vanished! Hey, he's back somewhere else! How did he do that? http://www.amazon.com/Tundra-Security-T24-Lead-Bag/dp/B00023JL2I
  17. But wait. You're quoting the guy that designed that stuff. And true, we're not going to allow some phone to mess around. But if the touchy grounding/shielding fails or goofs, it's better safe than sorry. And the actual reason behind "no phone or electronics while in flight", is that they actually do occasionally goof navigation and communication. Modern designs, not so much. Older aircraft and equipment, take your chances. edit: oh, and that turn right now was a joke. You should watch more worthless tv commercials.
  18. Airplane mode prevents a phone from messing with aircraft navigation and communication signals. Basically not suddenly telling the aircraft "RIGHT TURN NOW!". For me it's a quick sleep mode when in meetings or when leaving the phone behind in the truck or car. (Or under the seat of the motorcycle. I don't want the motorcycle beeping and ringing.)
  19. I think I'll vote Ruger MkIII heavy barrel. Really accurate plinker.
  20. Just when you thought you owned everything... Lomography Gold Edition (Gallery Store Toronto) http://cloud.lomography.com/576/384/eb/cabc13846059b777f50dfe7b83a81d710571d6.jpg
  21. Political radicals have no sense of humor regardless of affiliation.
  22. The Vietnam combat vet that lived across the street from me said that Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan were the most realistic combat movies he had ever seen. I'm sure he'd add We Were Soldiers if he was still around. His quote was the one Band of Brothers episode where they were at the Battle of the Bulge. If you watch it, you'll see bits of twigs and trees and plants severe and fall as rounds go shooting past. That's extremely accurate.
  23. Trails West in Reynoldsburg for a WARN Industries ATV winch mount. There's a model specifically for the Yamaha Bear Tracker. There's at least 31 places in central Ohio that sell WARN mounts. It's only 39 bucks from JC Whitney, but this will be more installed. And I don't know if your winch will mount easy, but it should.
  24. One of the real life newbs in that battle, was amazed at the ground bubbling like boiling water in front of him. Quickly realized it was incoming fire. Lots of it. Awesome movie. More or less the first real test of mobile infantry. Air Cavalry. Battle of la Drang edit: If you want a good book to read that includes the battle, Chickenhawk by Robert Mason
  25. Lever action saddle rifle. 30-30, 30-06 or 308. Maybe find one that breaks to two parts. edit: the rifle of choice in Canada is an bolt action Enfield 30-06. Sporterized it would be somewhat shorter. And yeah, bear strength pepper spray in bear country is a must. And now that I look at the Mossberg JIC-II broken down in it's bag, I like it. But I still think pistol grip only shotguns can't hit anything unless it's really close.
